The opening of the International Open Students Olympiad on Programming ‘KPI-OPEN’

The second month of summer for students, who are fond of programming, traditionally begins with the International Olympiad on Programming "KPI-OPEN" named after S.O. Lebedev and V.M. Glushkov. The year 2013 has not become an exception: on 2nd July the Olympiad solemnly opened in the Hall of the Academic Council of The National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.

For the past eight years, the "KPI-OPEN" Olympiad has become the largest in Ukraine and one of the world's largest ‘face to face’ programming contest among students. This year there are more than 90 commands from 64 universities of Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Belarus, Turkey, Hungary, Moldova, Estonia and Poland – in all almost 400 participants.

The ESC “Clean Water” Opening

On June 27 an Educational Scientific Center "Clean Water" was inaugurated in the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute". It is established by the NTUU "KPI" and the research-and-production enterprise "Nature Technologies". The purpose of the ESC "Clean Water" – to promote the solution of the problem of clean drinkable water supply to Ukrainian residents. The decision is urgent for our country: well known is the fact, that due to bad ecological condition of surface water and water supply sources and because of archaic water treatment technologies at the same time, more than 50% of our population consume water, completely unfit for usage.

"An access to clean drinkable water is the problem that becomes more urgent in this century and eventually it will be more acute. Its solution depends primarily on the technology advancement and skilled professionals able to work with it, said the Rector of the NTUU "KPI", a member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Mikhail Zgurovsky at the opening ceremony. – Thus, the Center is established to prepare such experts and work out the best technology".

Means of Energy Audit for IEE NTUU “KPI”

On the 20th of June the Head of the Ukrainian-Japanese centre at the NTUU “KPI” Osamu Midzutani presented Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Marketing at the NTUU “KPI” with the equipment for energy audit for its use in scientific researches and educational process.

‘Today we are giving KPI the equipment, the operation of which was demonstrated by the participants of the workshop which was held from 12th to 14th of June. We consulted Japanese experts about whom out of the participants of this workshop better to give it and decided unanimously that this equipment should be presented to the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Marketing at the NTUU “KPI”,’ stressed the head of the Ukrainian-Japanese centre at the NTUU “KPI” Osamu Midzutani. ’We have collaborated a lot with its first director Arthur Prahovnyk, we hold several workshops for experts in this field and I am sure that here it will be of the utmost use to prepare specialists for energy sector in Ukraine.’

Visit of the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Ukraine

On June 19 NTUU "KPI" were visited by the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Ukraine Ernesto Antonio Senti Darias. In spite of the fact that it is his first visit to university, the meeting with the management and teachers of KPI and discussion of questions of expansion of cooperation left surprisingly warm and, at the same time, business.

Visit of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology representatives.

On the 18th June, by representatives of the Tokyo University of Agriculture Technology (Japan) attended NTU "KPI" - Professor Masao Nagai and Associate Professor Ponhsatorn Raksincharonsak. They visited the Science and Technical Library and Ukraine-Japan Center of NTU "KPI", made a tour along the alley of monuments to famous scientists and designers whose creative activity began in KPI or was connected with it and familiarized themselves with the State Polytechnic Museum at NTU "KPI". After a general acquaintance with University guests met with his leadership and discuss trends and ways to expand cooperation.

The meeting was attended by First Vice Rector of NTU KPI Yuriy Yakymenko, Vice Rector of National Technical University of Ukraine Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Executive Manager of International Relations Division, Corresponding Member of NAS of Ukraine Sergey Sidorenko, Deputy Chief of International Relations Division Sergei Shukayev, director of the Ukraine-Japan Center of NTU" KPI "Midzutani Osama and his deputy, Eugene Ogorodnik, and representatives of Mechanical Engineering Institute of NTU "KPI".

The Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic unveiled a monument to Petar II Petrovic Njegos on the premises of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" in Kyiv.

On the 13-th of June the public garden near the Science and Technical Library of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (NTUU KPI) hosted the solemn ceremony to unveil the monument to Petar II Petrovic Njegos (1813 - 1851), an outstanding poet and the Prince-Bishop of Montenegro.

Petar II Petrovic Njegos was the Prince-Bishop of Montenegro between 1830-1851, the Serbian Orthodox Metropolitan of Cetinje. He was an outstanding statesman, reformer, Montenegrin fair fighter against Turkey. When he was in power Montenegro began to turn into independent modern state. He also founded the first school and printing establishment in Cetinje, that is a historical and cultural capital of the country, and edited a collection of folk songs. Moreover, he was a prominent poet, one of the most remarkable in the literature of Balkan nations.

Recognition of merits and expression of gratitude

During the meeting on the highest level between the President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich and the Prime Minister of Japan Naoto Kana, that was held on the 16th of January 2011, in the course of discussion of the state and prospects of the bilateral partnership the Heads of two countries mention the functioning of the Ukrainian-Japanese Centre of NTUU "KPI". In the "Mutual declaration between the President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich and Prime Minister of Japan Naoto Kana about Ukrainian-Japanese global partnership" was written: "…Among various types of activities of the Centre the two Heads pointed out that the technical cooperation on Japanese projects and management of programs were extremely important for the development of particular branches of Ukrainian economy. They admitted that the Centre must remain being an important element of bilateral partnership in the realm of science and technology, stimulation of investments, learning Japanese language, mutual enrichment of the cultures, increasing the level of the mutual understanding with the active involving of all parts interested from the both countries..."
