Last December, the first issue of an English-language newsletter dedicated to the life of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was published. It was called Quarterly Newsletter. However, so many events take place at the university every week that even if only the most important ones were included in the newsletter, it would be huge.

Therefore, starting with the next issue, the name was changed, as the newsletter began to be published more frequently. It is now called the Kyiv Polytechnic Newsletter and is published twice a month or as needed. It is a digest of news about the university with a brief summary of extensive materials from the university website and department websites, from the newspaper “Kyiv Polytechnic,” and sometimes from Ukrainian publications translated into English, as well as information from international university alliances of which Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is a member. Each published article has a link to the original source.

Each issue is divided into sections: “Publications,” “Collaboration with Alliances,” “Visits,” “Upcoming Events,” and “Remarkable dates and holidays in Ukraine.” (Upcoming Events), “Remarkable dates and holidays in Ukraine.”

The bulletin is not a traditional media outlet: its purpose is to inform academic experts and experts from employers about the life and achievements of KPI, whose survey results are largely used to evaluate universities when compiling international academic rankings. For example, in one of the world's most authoritative rankings, QS World University Rankings, the weighting coefficient for academic reputation is currently 30%, and the employer reputation indicator is 15%. Therefore, it is distributed to its recipients by the International Educational Rankings Division of the University's International Cooperation Department.

The editor of the bulletin, Volodymyr Sytin, said that this information bulletin was created on the initiative of the university's rector, Anatolii Melnychenko, and vice-rector for international cooperation, Andrii Shysholin, because expert evaluations have a significant impact on KPI's position in international rankings.

It is obvious that this publication is one of the windows that open our university to the international expert community. That is why the number of recipients to whom it is sent is already quite large and continues to grow. According to Yevheniia Dovhopol, Head of the International Educational Rankings Department, it has already exceeded 2,000. And this, apparently, is not the limit.

It is quite obvious that high places in international academic rankings do not appear by themselves. This is the result of systematic and comprehensive work by the university and its entire staff. Not only the achievements and significant events in the life of the university play an important role in achieving the desired result, but also the ability to tell the world about them. There is a well-known Ukrainian proverb: “She knew how to cook, but she didn't know how to serve.” We have already learned how to “cook,” and now we are learning how to “serve.” The new bulletin is one of the ways to convey information about us to people from different countries who are very important for determining KPI's place in the global academic community.
