Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has a rich and glorious history. Its fame was created by inspired, selfless work of outstanding scholars and teachers who have turned KPI into the unique educational and research institution and its graduates who have made outstanding contributions to the development of science and technology in the twentieth century – both national and international.

  • Kyrpychov Victor Lvovych (1845-1913) – an outstanding scientist in the field of mechanics, a prominent figure in the field of higher technical education, the first rector and founder of KPI (1898-1902).
  • Paton Evgen Oskarovych (1870-1953) – a prominent bridge builder and founder of Electric Welding, member of Academy of Sciences of Ukrainian SSR, Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR , worked at KPI in 1904-1929 and 1935-1939, respectively.
  • Sikorsky Igor Ivanovych (1889-1972) – the world-famous aircraft designer, studied at KPI in the years 1907-1911
  • Kilchevsky Mykola Oleksandrovych (1909-1979) – an outstanding scientist in the field of theoretical mechanics, member of Academy of Sciences of Ukrainian SSR. Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, worked at KPI in 1944-1961 gg
  • Plotnikov Volodymyr Oleksandrovych (1873-1947) – an outstanding electrochemist, member of Academy of Sciences of Ukrainian SSR, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, worked at KPI from 1899 to 1941.
  • Tymoshenko Stepan Prokopovych (1878-1972) – the world famous scientist and engineer, one of the founders of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, worked at KPI in 1907-1911 and 1917-1920.
  • Pysarzhevsky Lev Volodymyrovych (1871-1938) – an outstanding scientist in the field of Inorganic Chemistry, member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, laureate of Lenin Prize, head of the department in KPI in 1908-1912
  • Lulka Arkhyp Mykhailovych (1908-1984) – a prominent designer of aircraft engines, member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor, Laureate of the Lenin and State Prizes of the USSR , graduated from KPI in 1931.
  • Pysarenko Heorhiy Stepanovych (1910-2001) – an outstanding scientist and engineer, member of Academy of Sciences of Ukrainian SSR, laureate of State Prize of the USSR and the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR, studied and worked in the KPI from 1937 to 1984.
  • Kravchuk Myhaylo Pylypovych (1892-1942) – the world famous mathematician, member of Academy of Sciences of Ukrainian SSR, worked at KPI from 1921 to 1938.
  • Chelomei Volodymyr Mykolayovych (1914-1984) – a prominent scientist and designer of spacecrafts, member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of Lenin and the USSR State Prize, studied at KPI in 1932-1933
  • Korolyov Serhiy Pavlovych (1906-1966) – an outstanding aerospaceship designer, member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of Lenin Award, attended KPI in 1924-1926
  • Mikulin Olexander Olexandrovych (1895-1985) – a prominent designer of aircraft engines, member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, studied at KPI in 1912-1914
  • Vul Bentsion Moiseyovych (1903-1985) – eminent physicist, member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, graduated from KPI in 1928.
  • Vinter Oleksandr Vasylyovych (1878-1958) – an outstanding scientist and power engineer, builder of the first power stations of the USSR, member of USSR Academy of Sciences, studied at KPI in 1899-1900.
  • Bardin Ivan Pavlovych (1883-1960) – an outstanding scientist and metallurgist, member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Hero of Socialist Soviet Union, graduated from KPI in 1910.
  • Lulev Lev Veniaminovych (1908-1985) – Chief Designer of antiaircraft and missile weaponry, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of the State Prizes of the USSR, graduated from KPI in 1933.
  • Trefilov Viktor Ivanovych (1930-2001) – an outstanding Metal Physics scientist, member of USSR Academy of Sciences, laureate of USSR State Prize and the State Prize of Ukraine, graduated from KPI in 1952.
