1899-1917: Shuliavka Republic and student movements of the early 20th century
Integral page story of KPI is its participation in the general democratic movement in the country that was carried out under the banner of democratization of higher education and the freedom of student associations. Students demanded the elimination of police surveillance in higher education, complained repressive tsarist policy.
1943-1951: Re-evacuation and recovery of the Institute
The liberation of Kiev in November 1943 allowed to resume the work of the Institute. The assistant professor V.I. Gorodisky was appointed to head the restoration. The registration for faculty, staff, students returning to college was started. Up to 25 November, it was registered 8 professors, 9 associate professors, 16 teachers, 30 support staff employees, 20 students.
1950-1960: Organization of teaching and research work at the institute
Improving the quality of training was associated with improvements in the entire teaching work - methodical reports at meetings of departments and research councils, the development of new laboratory and practical tasks, visual aids, holding open sessions, instilling students skills of independent work.
Research school of KPI mechanics
Establishing of Mechanical Scientific School is directly connected with the creation in Kiev Polytechnic the Department of strength of materials. An outstanding scientist and organizer of Mechanical Engineering Education, the first rector of KPI Distinguished Professor Victor L. Kirpichev first substantiated the need for fundamental reform of higher engineering education in accordance with the actual needs of the industry and transition mechanics science (as the basis of technology) in new "Physics and Technology" during his development.
