Demining

Humanitarian demining is extremely important for our country. The work on clearing vast areas of mines and all kinds of explosive debris, which is already underway and will reach a huge scale after the war is over, requires, firstly, human resources, secondly, a significant amount of special equipment, and thirdly, constant improvement of demining technologies and their implementation. And all of these “first,” “second,” and “third” have recently been directly related to Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. 

🇺🇦🇯🇵🇺🇳 An important two-day working meeting was held within the framework of the Humanitarian Mine Action and Security System project under the joint program of UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and the Government of Japan.

At the XIII International Festival of Innovative Projects “Sikorsky Challenge 2024: Innovations for Peace and Security of Ukraine”, the team of the project “Modular Remote Demining System ‘Impactor’ won the Best Startup Solution nomination. The authors of the development are members of the Geotron student research group.

Our university is expanding the range of strategic initiatives for the development of mine action in Ukraine. Our foreign partners, in particular 🇺🇸, the American company Safe Pro Group, are actively helping us with this.

Our university received a delegation of representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine.

The meeting discussed the possibility of further implementation of joint projects in the field of humanitarian demining.

Our university continues to multiply its achievements in humanitarian demining and mine safety. We are not resting on our laurels and are engaging new partners. Now among them is the NGO Ukrainian Association of Humanitarian Demining, which brings together a wide range of mine action operators, manufacturers and other organizations involved in this field.

Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is launching a professional development program for veterans “Humanitarian Demining” (specialty G2 Environmental Protection Technologies), which will provide them with the opportunity to reintegrate into civilian life.

On 10 September, Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Anatoliy Melnychenko and Chairman of the Board and Head of the Ukrainian Deminers Association (UDA) Tymur Pistriuha signed a memorandum of cooperation between the university and this public organisation. 

A third of Ukraine's territory is still mined, and our energy system has lost more than half of its electricity output.

The problem of demining the territories of Ukraine during the hostilities of 2022-2024 has sharply escalated. Currently, about 30% of Ukrainian territory is mined with explosives, and only 1% has been cleared.
