Roman Pedan, PhD Student at the Institute of Materials Science and Welding: "Working with Something New Is Always Interesting"

To support the most talented young researchers and encourage outstanding scientific achievements, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, by Order No. 1526 of November 19, 2025, awarded Presidential Academic Scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year to selected PhD students. The scholarship amounts to UAH 23,700 per month. Among the recipients are two researchers from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute: Andrii Makarchuk (Educational and Research Institute of Nuclear and Thermal Energy; see Kyiv Polytechnic, No. 3–4, 2026) and Roman Pedan (Yevhen O. Paton Educational and Research Institute of Materials Science and Welding).

Beauty and Tenderness at an Exhibition at the Cultural Center

After a cold and anxious winter, we long for warmth, light, and hope. The exhibition Women’s Territory of Art at Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute, on display at the Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute Art Gallery, offers a welcome opportunity to connect with beauty. The exhibition features works by female university staff members, including paintings, graphic art, embroidery, and decorative and applied art.

FSP Students Visit Slavutych

At the beginning of March, an off-campus seminar in Slavutych was organized for students of the Faculty of Sociology and Law at Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute who are pursuing degrees in Social Work. The city is currently preparing to host commemorative events marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. The seminar therefore focused on introducing students to life in this 40-year-old city, which was built specifically to accommodate workers of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

Japanese Chess at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

Intellectual games are becoming increasingly popular at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. University-wide and city chess tournaments hosted on campus have attracted growing participation, with Polytechnic students consistently achieving outstanding results. More recently, tournaments in Go and Shogi have also been added, promoted by the Ukrainian-Japanese Center. These Japanese strategy games can be considered close relatives of chess, offering even broader strategic possibilities.
