Yuriy Gogotsi, a member of the supervisory board of Igor Sikorsky KPI and a professor at Drexel University, has become a key figure in the creation of a new generation of stretchable OLED displays. He is one of the discoverers of MXenes, the materials that form the basis of this breakthrough technology, and led a research team from Drexel University in the United States and Seoul National University.
The team of scientists proved that MXenes can effectively replace fragile indium tin oxide in OLED displays, providing high brightness, flexibility, and record efficiency. The new displays maintain stable luminescence even when stretched significantly.
According to Yuriy Gogotsi, this technology paves the way for the use of displays in wearable electronics, particularly in smart clothing for health monitoring, although further research is still needed before mass implementation.
