Session of Management committee of UNIDO project

On February, 9th the session of a Management committee of an international project UNIDO “Assistance in adaptation and implementation of resource effective and more clean production through the creation and function of the Center of clean production in Ukraine” took place at NTUU “KPI”.

An international project “Assistance in adaptation and implementation of resource effective and cleaner production through the creation and function of the Center of clean production in Ukraine” is being fulfilled in Ukraine since 2013 with the support of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and is financed by the governments of Austria and Switzerland. The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine is the beneficiary of the project. The purpose of the project is to implement into production measures that reduce energy consumption, material resources and water. This reduces the negative impact on environment. The founders of the Center of resource effective and clean production are NTUU “KPI” and Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

While opening the session Mykhailo Zhurovskyi, rector of NTUU “KPI”, stressed the importance of the project the helps to actualize innovative potential of Ukrainian economy by combining efforts of national scientists, technical specialists and international experts and donor organizations.

The session participants highlighted that European integration of Ukraine involves the transition of national enterprises to the standards of resource- and power efficient and more clean production. These are the obligations of Ukraine due to the Association Agreement as well as a bunch of other international agreements. Enterprises themselves require this due to the challenges of global and internal competition.

According to the information from Ihor Shylovych, director of the Center of resource effective and clean production, 21 enterprises took part in the project during 2015. The coefficient of reduction of technologically ungrounded resource waste through the implementation of experts’ solutions was 105,25 tons per year, 47 500 sq.m. of water per year, 1 666, 19 MWh of power per year, 26 453,5 MWh per year of heat power, 6 544,88 tons per year – reduction of CO2 emission that in money terms is € 1 247 234, 8.

The session participants concluded that due to the critical importance of the project for Ukrainian enterprises its fulfillment should be prolonged to 2018.

Petra Shvaher, co-ordinator of RECP projects of UNIDO, expressed her hope that, considering the high level of technical support and engineering solutions that the Center of resource effective and clean production provides, the project should become an effective lever of reception of transitioning Ukrainian production on the rails of sustainable development.
