1 August 2014 the opening ceremony of Ninth International Summer School " AACIMP-2014" took place at the Hall of the Academic Council NTUU "KPI".
In a welcome address students and teachers of the school were being greeted by Rector University NAS of Ukrain academician Michael Zgurovsky, as well as by managing partners and sponsors of the Summer School and streams' coordinators.
Summer Scholl "Achievements and Applications of Contemporary Informatics, Mathematics and Physics" – AACIMP, is a scientific and educational project which for the past nine years was successfully implemented by Student Scientific Association of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kiev Polytechnic Institute" (SSA NTUU "KPI"). For the students participation in the school works is an opportunity to get new skills and at the same time to make acquaintance with peers who have the same interests, as well as an opportunity to have a rest.It is also a possibility to listen the lectures of recognized experts from relevant industries in different countries and talk to them personally. Thus the number of participants of the Summer Scholl activities is increased every year. This year 105 participants from 19 countries have been registered.
Summer School AACIMP works in the traditional school format - for two weeks, participants visit a variety of activities - lectures, practice, seminars, etc. The academic part of the project also involves the plenary sessions, round tables and visits various laboratories, institutes, etc. Moreover, famous scientists, researchers and experts from Austria, Britain, Estonia, Italy, Canada, Germany, Russia, USA, Turkey, Ukraine, France, Sweden and Switzerland will work with the students.
This year the Summer School is represented by such directions- streams:
- Research of operations : Logistics and Finance. Lectures of this stream allow participants to familiarize themselves with a wide range of models used by professionals to find and make the best decisions under conditions of uncertainty inherent in the modern world;
- Applied Computer Science: data analysis. This year, the stream will explore the techniques of obtaining and storing data, as participants become familiar with the basic methods of statistical processing, data analysis and the principles of machine learning. All of these technologies will be illustrated by examples from various spheres of public life;
- Energy: energy efficient buildings. Methods and approaches of creating energy efficient buildings is a main theme of the course. Various approaches and technologies to improve their energy efficiency will be discussed. Part of the course is presented in the form of studies implemented in Ukraine by representatives of companies and city council;
- Neuroscience. The main task of this stream is a familiarization of participants with the latest developments of neuroscience and basic examples of practical application of the principles and analytical software packages to simulate the brain.
Of course, besides the curriculum, Summer school has traditionally offers its participants a rich and interesting cultural program: acquaintance with Kyiv, quests, film club, evenings of different games, tours and much more.
Immediately after the opening of the Summer School AACIMP-2014 the first plenary session in its program took place. Dr. Sergey Yakovenko (West Virginia University Medical Laboratory neyroinzhenerii) gave a lecture on the theme: "The brain, body, and robotics. Dialogue between biological and artificial machines. "
The project is intended for intellectual socially active youth who are committed to self-development, is interested in the current state of science and is planning in the future to engage in research and innovative work. Summer School participants have the opportunity today to learn firsthand what the world will know tomorrow.
Work Summer School AACIMP-2014 will last until August 15.
