In March, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute hosted the traditional Mathematics Week, a series of events that demonstrated how interesting, interactive and modern this science can be. The significance of the event was supported by the rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Anatoliy Melnychenko: he recorded a video message to the participants, in which he emphasized the importance of developing mathematical culture among young people and its role in scientific and technological progress.

The organizer of the Week was the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Probability Theory of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics with the support of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (JAS). Under the leadership of the chairman of the organizing committee, Professor O. Klesov, Associate Professor O. Tymoshenko and Associate Professor A. Syrotenko, a number of events were developed for participants of different categories - KPI students, schoolchildren, applicants, as well as for talented young people from various universities in the capital, where mathematicians are trained. So, during the week, students and schoolchildren had the opportunity to test their knowledge in a competitive format, solve non-standard problems, and plunge into the world of mathematical logic.

A mathematical battle:

A duel of the minds

The Mathematics Week started with a mathematical battle - it was an internal event, a competition for teams from the faculties of our university. The tasks were of the Olympic level of difficulty, and the participants had to not only find the right answer, but also defend it with arguments and analyze the decisions of their opponents. The first place in this year's competition was won by the team of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics and the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Science “Hyperbolic Cat”. The second place went to the team of the Educational and Research Institute of Applied Systems Analysis “The Dampness Theorem”. The bronze medalists were representatives of the Educational and Research Institute of Physics and Technology “Auggie and Fibonacci”.

All-Ukrainian math quest Olympiad:

When artificial intelligence cannot cope

On March 12, the All-Ukrainian Mathematical Quest Olympiad took place, bringing together more than 315 schoolchildren from different regions of Ukraine. The Olympiad was held on the Sikorsky remote platform, and the author's Step by Step system, developed by the faculty of the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Probability Theory, was used to create tasks.

This quest Olympiad has already become a legend. Hundreds of Ukrainian schools are waiting for it, and students compete in solving mathematical and logical challenges. The organizers were particularly careful in selecting the tasks: they were designed so that artificial intelligence could not cope with them. The students had to apply out-of-the-box thinking, analyze the conditions and look for creative approaches to the solution.

The students received personalized certificates for their successful participation. The Department of Mathematical Analysis and Probability Theory, together with the Junior Academy of Sciences, prepared memorable gifts for the best participants.

Interuniversity mathematical brainstorming:

The struggle of polymaths

One of the most anticipated events of the Week of Mathematics was the Interuniversity Mathematical Brainstorm, which was held for the second time as part of interuniversity events. It was attended by teams from five leading Ukrainian universities: Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, NaUKMA, Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, and Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University.

Before the competition, students of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics organized a fascinating journey into the world of mathematics for the guests at the Mathematical Fair. Visitors had the opportunity to explore the amazing properties of the Möbius tape, learn about Euler's invariants, master the art of creating fractals, see Monte Carlo methods in practice, and try their hand at a card and mathematical game.

The competition consisted of four thematic rounds: logic puzzles, mathematics and artificial intelligence, mathematics and art, and the final blitz for the speed of thinking. The tasks developed by the teachers of the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Probability Theory combined logic, history, creativity, and even humor. This made the brainstorm not only challenging but also exciting for both participants and spectators.

The math brainstorming brought together the best intellectuals. The atmosphere of the competition combined an intense battle of wits, emotional uplift, and powerful support. Each team had its fans - not only friends and classmates, but also deans and faculty members who came to support their students.

According to the results of the competition, the team from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv "Boiler Angles" won, the second place went to the team from the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and the bronze went to our team "Linovtsi" from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.

During the breaks in the competition, the participants could exchange opinions, analyze the previous rounds, and communicate in an informal setting over coffee breaks. Thus, the event was not only a test of mathematical skills, but also another step towards the formation of an active, talented mathematical community.

Next year, the organizers promise even more challenges, non-standard tasks and intellectual competitions. KPI proves that mathematics is prestigious, interesting and promising!
