A delegation from the Vienna-based World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) visited the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on 16 February 2026. The highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the WINS Test Centre at the university’s Institute of Nuclear and Thermal Energy (INTE).

The international delegation included WINS Executive Director Lars van Dassen and Senior Project Manager Nataliia Klos.

Rector Anatolii Melnychenko, Vice-Rector Andrii Shysholin, as well as representatives of the university administration and INTE faculty warmly welcomed the guests.

The delegation visited Building No. 5, where they were introduced to the Scientific and Research Centre for N-Plant’s Reliability and Safety, whose main facility is a multifunctional VVER-1000 reactor (water-moderated, water-cooled power reactor) simulator. The guests also toured the Educational and Scientific Nuclear Security Support Centre.

The highlight of the meeting was a ceremonial ribbon cutting by Anatolii Melnichenko and Lars van Dassen, symbolising the official opening of the Test Centre.

The Test Centre was established with the assistance of WINS and the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority. It empowers students to take examinations on the WINS Academy’s module “Radioactive Source Security Management,” which has been previously adapted into Ukrainian within the framework of cooperation. This module covers the security systems, including administrative and technical measures, required to protect and secure radioactive sources, mitigate threats and minimise the risk of harmful events. As far as WINS Academy Certification Testing is concerned, OnVUE online proctored exams are available through the PearsonVUE test provider’s platform.

The WINS Test Centre has been successfully running in trial mode since December 2025, and five students have passed the exams to date.
