On this day, August 4, 1883, Borys Saveliyovych Lysin was born. A graduate of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, academician of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of technical sciences, professor, all of whose activities were closely connected with Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
In 1909, he successfully graduated from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and was invited to work as a lecturer at the Department of construction materials and mineral substances. From the first days of work, Borys Saveliyovych was fully engaged in scientific activities, and compiling textbooks on the silicate chemical technology.
In 1917, the staff of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute elected Lysin as the Head of the Lecturers Council of the Institute. In 1921, Borys Saveliyovych founded the Department of Silicate Technology at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and headed it for many years. He always considered the training of highly qualified specialists in the field of chemistry and silicate technology to be one of his main tasks.
From 1923 to 1928, he also worked as the dean of the Chemical Faculty of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
Under Borys Saveliyovych’s leadership, a whole constellation of outstanding scientists and specialists in the field of construction materials technology and inorganic materials science grew up.
