Due to the full-scale war with Russia and the increasing number of people in need of prosthetics and rehabilitation, Ukraine has a need to implement the best technologies in this field. The KOLO Charitable Foundation, a charitable organization focused on supporting people affected by Russia's military aggression, approached Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute with a proposal to create a joint center for this purpose. The decision was made to cooperate, and four other organizations joined the project. This decision was formalized by signing a memorandum.
Thus, in order to meet the needs of the national prosthetics and rehabilitation industry, the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" and its member Institute of Advanced Defense Technologies, Sikorsky Challenge Innovation Holding, KOLO Charitable Foundation, Research Institute of Postwar Rehabilitation and Prosthetics, Bez Obmezhen and Parashar Industries Limited Liability Companies have started cooperation.
As defined in the joint document signed by them, the purpose of cooperation is to promote the development of higher and postgraduate education, dual education, scientific, scientific and technical activities to meet the needs of the prosthetics and rehabilitation industry for qualified personnel, the results of applied research, ensuring its innovative development and increasing the level of competitiveness, improving the social protection system for people with disabilities (military and civilian) who suffered during the war, in particular with regard to prosthetics, orthotics, and other prosthetic devices.
"The capacity and quality of prosthesis manufacturing that existed in pre-war times is now insufficient," commented Inna Maliukova, co-founder and head of the Sikorsky Challenge Ukraine All-Ukrainian Innovation Ecosystem, "We are joining forces to create a center for research in the field of prosthetics, as well as laboratories where prostheses will be manufactured. We plan to provide training and professional development for those specialists who will produce and use prostheses, including the latest technologies and products from foreign companies. We will also involve start-ups and developments that already exist and will be developed in Ukraine and abroad to develop the prosthetic industry."
Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is joining forces with the Kolo Charitable Foundation for Ukraine’s victory.
The purpose of cooperation is to give support to the defenders of Ukraine, such as providing them with the necessary things and means to overcome the aggressor.
