“Snow Leopards” from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

In mountaineering, a “Snow Leopard” is an honorary title that has been awarded in the USSR since the mid-1960s for ascending the country's highest peaks—the seven-thousanders. Without oxygen tanks, without porters, with cumbersome heavy gear, in felt boots and self-sewn clothing, enthusiasts conquered the icy kilometers of mountain slopes. It was only in the 1990s that lightweight and reliable equipment and innovative materials appeared. Among the recipients of the “Conqueror of the Highest Mountains” badge is a constellation of Kyiv Polytechnic graduates. Let’s name them.

This is especially true for countries that are recognized leaders in technological development. So, when Park Ki-chang, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine, delivered his lecture at the Smart Shelter of the Scientific and Technical Library on March 27, Kyiv Polytechnic Institute students listened with rapt attention. And no wonder: his presentation on the topic "Korea-Ukraine Partnership: Technology, Innovation and a Future We Build Together" was dedicated to the partnership between one of the world’s most advanced high-tech nations and Ukraine in fields that are today arguably decisive in ensuring the economic development of civilized countries.

The World Masters Games—for veteran athletes—were recently held in Abu Dhabi (UAE). The Ukrainian 65+ team participated in the soccer tournament, featuring Igor Mentukov, an employee of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) campus and a specialist and member of the university’s trade union committee. The Ukrainian soccer players won first place and were awarded gold medals. Ihor Oleksiyovych spoke to a correspondent from “Kyiv Polytechnic” about participating in the World Masters Games.

On March 10, Seymur Gurban oglu Mardaliyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Ukraine, presented awards to students of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute who won the essay contest on the topic “Startup Diplomacy: Ukraine and Azerbaijan in Building an Innovation Partnership."
