Three days of events, more than 7,500 visitors, and countless opportunities to discover 🇯🇵 Japan up close — this was this year’s festival, organized by the Ukrainian-Japanese Center of Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

The National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” is known in Ukraine and worldwide for its many scientific schools. Among them are the pioneering schools of chemical production processes and equipment, as well as polymer materials processing processes and equipment, established at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering (renamed the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology in 1999 and the Faculty of Automation, Industrial Engineering and Ecology in 2025). An invaluable contribution to the establishment and development of these two scientific schools was made by Yurii Yukhymovych Lukach, a participant in the Second World War, Doctor of Engineering, Honoured Professor of the university, Professor of the Department of Machinery and Equipment for Chemical and Petroleum Processing Industries, and Head of the Department from 1973 to 1999.

Hryhorii Luparenko, Head of the Research Department for Exhibition and Museum Activities at the Borys Paton State Polytechnic Museum and a war veteran, has been awarded the Honorary Distinction of the Academic Council of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute for his outstanding contribution to strengthening Ukrainian statehood, his courage and selfless service in defending Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and his dedicated professional service.

🎥 After a several-year break, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute once again hosted one of the largest international student programming competitions in an in-person format—the 17th International Open Programming Olympiad KPI-OPEN 2026.

An exhibition of works by artist Yuliia Skrypka (also known as Yuliia Pidkurhanna), titled The Fairy Tale of Everyday Life, has opened at the Borys Paton State Polytechnic Museum of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The exhibition project was presented by the Directorate of Art Exhibitions of Ukraine in partnership with the museum.

On June 12, the Ukrainian-Japanese Center of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute opened the exhibition Warriors and Flowers, featuring classical Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints alongside works by contemporary Ukrainian artists.

Graduates of Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute can be found on every continent and at many of the world's leading research institutions. It is especially rewarding to see that many of them maintain close ties with their alma mater, follow the university's achievements, share their own professional successes, and serve as ambassadors for both Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute and Ukraine.

The history of Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute is shaped by individuals whose achievements have defined the university's academic and human legacy for generations. One of the most distinguished among them is Professor Volodymyr Serhiiovych Kovalenko, whose contribution continues to inspire the university community. On June 20, 2026, the university marked the 85th anniversary of the birth of this outstanding scientist, whose research and teaching career was as focused and purposeful as the laser beam he devoted his life to mastering.

This spring, Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute hosted the All-Ukrainian Competition for Students and Young Researchers with International Participation, Youth Intelligence: Sustainable Natural Resource Management and Advanced Energy-Efficient Technologies. The event was held under the motto "Dream, Create, Grow!" The competition was organized by the Department of Automation of Electrical and Mechatronic Complexes of the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management, in cooperation with the Scientific and Technical Society of Chemmotologists NGO, under the patronage of the German-Ukrainian University Network ConnectED and in partnership with the Kyiv Junior Academy of Sciences.
