In response to the current challenges and demands of Ukrainian society, as well as to ensure Ukraine's competitiveness in the world, promote the development of national research potential, and integrate into the global research space, the Ministry of Education and Science holds competitions among scientists, followed by the provision of funding for advanced fundamental research that involves setting and solving pressing scientific problems. Kyiv Polytechnic continues to acquaint readers with the projects of our university's scientists that have received state funding this year. Among them is a project developed by researchers at the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute.

We sincerely congratulate Yevheniia Chvertko, Associate Professor of the Department of Welding Production of the Educational and Research Institute of Materials Science and Welding named after E.O.

Currently, E. Chvertko is a member of the International Council for Authorisation, which trains and certifies welding professionals. She is also the deputy director of the Institute of Welding for international cooperation.

This year marks 140 years since the invention and demonstration of electric arc welding by Nikolay Benardos. In 1881 in Paris, when Benardos was producing batteries, he first demonstrated a new way of metal compounds.

Associate Professor of the Department of Welding Machines Yevgeniya Chvertko became the first representative of Ukraine (and the second woman in the world) in the audit committee since last year which accomplishes independent verification of the certification work and training centres working under the licenses of the International Institute of Welding.

In June, 6 official ceremony of certificate delivery to the specialists from the People’s Republic of China of their internship was hold in the Conference Hall of Academic Board of NTUU “KPI”.

The Department of Welding was founded in the mechanical department of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute in 1935 on the initiative of famous scientist and engineer Paton E. O. He became its first head.
