Scientists of the Yevhen O. Paton Educational and Research Institute of Materials Science and Welding develop advanced materials at the atomic level

Among the founding scientific schools of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute that have transformed the world of materials science, the school established by outstanding metallurgist, laureate of State Prizes, Honored Scientist and Engineer of Ukraine, Director of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in 1952–1955, and Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine V. Hrydnyev continues to have a significant impact on Ukraine’s scientific and educational fields related to materials science.

Roman Pedan, PhD Student at the Institute of Materials Science and Welding: "Working with Something New Is Always Interesting"

To support the most talented young researchers and encourage outstanding scientific achievements, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, by Order No. 1526 of November 19, 2025, awarded Presidential Academic Scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year to selected PhD students. The scholarship amounts to UAH 23,700 per month. Among the recipients are two researchers from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute: Andrii Makarchuk (Educational and Research Institute of Nuclear and Thermal Energy; see Kyiv Polytechnic, No. 3–4, 2026) and Roman Pedan (Yevhen O. Paton Educational and Research Institute of Materials Science and Welding).

Oleksii Kahliak. There is work for... diamonds

How are ideas for developing a new technology and tool born? This question arises when you get acquainted with the materials of fundamental and applied research, which are carried out simultaneously with the educational process on the basis of two departments of the Educational and Research Institute of Materials Science and Welding named after E.O. Paton ( Institute of IMZ) of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute - the Department of Physical Materials Science and Heat Treatment (FMTO) and the Department of Laser Engineering and Physical and Technical Technologies (LTFT).

Scientists of the Institute of Materials Science teach talented students

For many years, the sections “Materials and Additive Technologies” and “Applied Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering”, which are part of the Department of Engineering and Materials Science of the Kyiv Academy of Sciences, have been actively working at the E.O. Paton Educational and Research Institute of Materials Science and Welding of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
