About the department
Mathematical Modeling and Data Analysis (MMDA) Department of Institute of Physics and Technology of National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” was established in 2021 by the order of HY/1/2021 of 05.01.2021 “On changes in the organizational structure of Institute of Physics and Technology of National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.
MMDA is a part of Institute of Physics and Technology and operates at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
The department continues the glorious traditions of Information Security Department in the bachelors, masters and PhD training within the specialty 113 Applied Mathematics.
From 2021, the department begins admission of students to the educational program “Mathematical methods of modeling, pattern recognition and computer vision” of the first (bachelor’s), second (master’s) and third (doctors of philosophy) levels of higher education.
A specialist in applied mathematics is a person who based on the acquired basic knowledge in mathematics, programming and computer science, builds mathematical models and intelligent systems for the analysis of large arrays of real data (Big Data) from any subject area, discovers patterns and forms company and product development strategies.
Key differences of applied mathematics in Institute of Physics and Technology:
- Fundamental training in mathematics, physics and computer science
- Close scientific cooperation with leading universities and research institutions of the world and Ukraine
- Bachelor’s and master’s theses in the framework of real international projects
- Involvement of teachers from among leading scientists and specialists in the field of data analysis and computer vision
The educational process provided by the department will include highly qualified teachers, including doctors of sciences, professors, candidates of sciences, as well as senior teachers, assistants and graduate students. Scientists of institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, leading specialists in the field of information technologies and applied mathematics will involve in the educational process part-time.
Certificate program “Models and methods of intellectual analysis of heterogeneous data”
On June 24, 2021, the Methodical Council of National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” approved the certificate program of the second (master’s) level of higher education “Models and methods of intellectual analysis of heterogeneous data.”
The certificate program is designed to meet the educational needs of university students and external students who are able to solve complex specialized problems and practical problems in the application of mathematical models and intelligent methods of processing heterogeneous large-scale data in cloud environments.
Certificate program “Models and methods of intellectual analysis of heterogeneous data” is a specialized complex of related disciplines (educational components) of fixed duration, which provides professional training of students (students of the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Data Analysis (MMDA) at the Institute of Physics and Technology and other departments of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, as well as external students).
The educational components of the certificate program consist of elective disciplines of the second (master’s) level of higher education in the specialty “Applied Mathematics” with a total of 14 credits.
The certificate of National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” is issued under the signature of the Vice-Rector based on the results of mastering the educational components of the certificate program, the acquisition of certain professional knowledge, skills and abilities on the basis of passing the relevant exams and tests.
Areas of scientific activity of the department:
- Mathematical methods for modeling complex physical, socio-economic and environmental processes.
- Mathematical methods for pattern recognition and computer vision.
- Intelligent methods of big data analysis of different nature.
Portrait of a specialist
Specialist in applied mathematics in the educational program “Mathematical methods of modeling, pattern recognition and computer vision” is a specialist of a qualitatively new type, combining high professionalism in computer science with deep knowledge of physics and mathematics, which is based on artificial intelligence, recognition images, computer vision and machine learning.
Thanks to the partnership of the Institute of Physics and Technology with leading scientific institutions and companies around the world, students of the program have the opportunity to do internships, including academic mobility, research within international projects and work with renowned experts and scientists in Ukraine and abroad. The bachelors graduates have the opportunity to make a bright career in well-known innovative companies that develop areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision and big data analysis, continue their master’s degree in the same field and dual education program with Samsung, in which the Institute of Physics and Technology has been actively involved since the beginning of 2018.
If desired, during the study the student can gain experience in international conferences, international research projects and communication with leading experts in the field of artificial intelligence.
