The conference began on November 26, 2024, with a speech by Professor Joakim Nivre of Uppsala University, who introduced the participants to the interlingual research project “Universal Dependencies”, which has been implemented since 2014 and aims to study the morphosyntactic relations of the world's languages in order to promote research in speech and linguistics in general. Mili Saha, PhD, University of Wollongong (Australia), presented an informative report on “Practical Approaches to Teaching English Pronunciation”. Professor Roksolana Povorozniuk of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv made an interesting presentation on “Understanding Medical Translation and Interpretation on a Global Scale”, which presented the specifics of medical text and various methods of successful translation and interpretation. The report of Tetiana Anoshkova, a lecturer at the Department of English for Technical Purposes #1 of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, highlighted the concept of “globally competent foreign language teaching”, according to which the main role of the teacher is to act as a guide and facilitator who encourages students to engage in critical exploration of the world and supports the development of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that form global competence.
The conference addressed the issue of using artificial intelligence to ensure quality student learning in today's conditions and realities. This was discussed in detail in the report of Professor Maria Fernanda Irrazabal Paz and her colleagues Laura Inés Botillera and Carina Beatriz Romallo from the Catholic University of Salta. Additionally, Maria Fernanda Irrazabal Paz presented another paper, prepared jointly with another of her colleagues, Carla Miotti, which emphasized the importance of poetry and songs in promoting an intercultural perspective in foreign language learning.
The speakers also touched upon many other topics that are quite important in the process of training a modern teacher of a higher technical school.
The abstracts are published in a separate collection and are also available on the website of the Department of AMTS No. 1, and the video of the conference can be found either on the website of the Department of AMTS No. 1 or on the official YouTube channel of the Department.
