The final of the Kyiv City Basketball Championship among men's youth teams took place in the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute sports complex. This year's tournament, which was attended by 12 student teams from the capital's universities, was held in several stages: group games in a round-robin system, playoffs, quarterfinals and the Final Four, which determined the winner.
The culmination of the basketball action was the confrontation between Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and NUFVSU. The final game ended with a score of 55:74 (12-24, 15-21, 13-17, 15-12) and our team took a very high second place!
The KPI team united 12 players from 9 faculties/institutes - FMM, ISZZI, IPSA, VPI, ITS, IEE, IHF - under the leadership of captain Anton Kostyk (VPI). Coaches: Hryhorii Ustymenko and Oleh Yaremenko.
The award “The Best Center” for the whole tournament was given to our Andrii Panasiuk.
“I have been playing in the team for five years and I see how its level is growing. The team has added many active young players, they train hard and give their best every time. Our result is hard work, trust in each other and high-quality individual training,” said Andriy Panasyuk, a student of the Educational and Scientific Publishing and Printing Institute (Institute of VPI) of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and a member of the basketball team.
The championship was organized by the Kyiv Basketball Federation.
“The idea of these competitions is to spread the culture of student sports, which motivates personal development. Sport is always relevant, and especially now, because our young people need to develop, choose sports, work and realize themselves here in our country. Patriotism, love for Ukraine and a healthy lifestyle are all about our championship today!” - Bohdan Stetsenko, President of the Kyiv Basketball Federation.
During the final, the tension was off the charts! It was a spectacular, exciting and uncompromising fight that lasted more than four hours. The final also featured a match for third place, in which DTEK's players beat the KNEU team.
At the end of the tournament, the players received medals and cups, and the director of the Super League, Roman Boyko, presented the rector of our university with a professional Spalding ball as a symbolic gratitude for his support in organizing the match.
Meanwhile, KPI students have already begun preparing for new challenges, because the Youth League of Ukraine is ahead, which means new rivals, new matches, and, of course, new victories.
We thank everyone who was there, cheered and supported our team!
