Despite the objective difficulties that our country is facing due to russia's full-scale military aggression, life in Ukraine is in full swing. Here is just one vivid proof. In early March, Kyiv hosted the Eco-Techno Ukraine 2023 competition for gifted schoolchildren, the national stage of the Regeneron ISEF-2023 International Science and Technology Exhibition.
The event, which was held for the 16th time, was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Ecological and Naturalistic Center for Student Youth and the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute". Among the partners of Eco-Techno Ukraine 2023 are well-known companies such as GlobalLogic, Epam, SoftServe, as well as our university graduate Sergiy Sinenko, who has been a patron of this event for six years.
Traditionally, the Eco-part of the competition was held at the National Ecology and Nature Center. And the Techno-competition, that is, the competition of students' projects on physical, mathematical and applied topics, was also traditionally held at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. However, due to certain circumstances, the competition was held in a mixed format.
...The meeting room of the Academic Council of our university is full of young voices. The opening ceremony is underway. It's spring-like light from thousands of sunbeams that fill the hall. Rector of KPI Michael Zgurovsky addresses the participants and guests of the competition: "The work of our university is based on the model of an educational research university," he reminds. "This means that the foundation for the functioning of the educational institution is the so-called triangle of knowledge: education - science - innovation. Thus, today's competition, the nominations of which cover 18 categories of modern science, aims to attract as many talented students as possible to study and subsequently to further develop national science and economy... Cooperation with domestic and foreign companies, in particular with Intel Corporation, in the areas of fulfilling knowledge-intensive orders by the university, in solving complex non-standard tasks, as well as cooperation with this year's sponsors of the competition and university partners will contribute to the main thing in this competition - to help students to make I wish success to the most talented in the field of high technology development!"
In their welcoming addresses to the contestants, Natalia Seminska, Vice-Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, and Oleksiy Novikov, Director of the Institute of Physical Technology, reminded them that participation in this competition is a very prestigious affair. But in order to demonstrate your own projects at the international scientific and technical exhibition "Regeneron ISEF", you need to work hard. After all, more than two thousand of the most talented high school students from all over the world come to the final part of this festival of youth scientific and technical creativity. Therefore, each project from Ukrainian students must have a scientific advisor, a specialist in the field in which the research work is being done. And in the end, the work should highlight the results of scientific research or practical developments.
The students who participated in the competition thanked the defenders of Ukraine: "This competition is taking place in a time of war, and we are grateful to the soldiers, including students and graduates of KPI, for the opportunity to study, work, and act."
And then the competition marathon began. The jury members, including scientists, specialists in certain scientific and technical fields, and practicing engineers, evaluated how important and relevant the research is in a particular field, how thoroughly the contestant did the work, how well the research and experiments were planned and conducted, etc.
The solemn and long-awaited award ceremony took place on March 3.
