On February 20, Ukraine commemorated the official Day of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes. This year, on the eve of the seventh anniversary of the Revolution of Dignity and the anniversary of the shooting of its participants on Independence Square, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution recognizing the Revolution of Dignity as one of the core moments of Ukrainian statehood and the national idea of freedom. ‘The resolution is the final point of establishing historical justice,’ Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratyuk said during the discussion of this document.
The National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” also commemorated the Heavenly Hundred Heroes. On February 19, University staff and employees, cadets of the Institute of Specialized Communication and Information Security, students of other faculties and departments of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute put flowers to the monument of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes on the territory of our University. It is a monument to commemorate those Kyiv Polytechnics who perished in hostilities in eastern Ukraine. The monument was installed near the Interfaith Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. There also memorial plaques in two University buildings.
Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has its losses during events that changed the course of modern Ukrainian history. In those days, a part-time student of the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Science of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Serhii Bondarev, died. Later, Yurii Popravka, tortured in the Donetsk region, gave his life for our freedom. Both young men have been rewarded the posthumous title of “The Hero of Ukraine”. Twelve more representatives of our University died in battles in eastern Ukraine at different times. More than 300 of our students and colleagues volunteered for the front, and 36 full-time employees were mobilized. That is what Rector Mykhailo Zgurovsky told about at the flower-laying ceremony.
