Today the Park of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Politechnic Institute and the territory near the university buildings have been replenished with new trees. More than 250 teachers, students and university staff joined the landscaping. In total, more than 300 trees were planted: 100 hornbeams and about 200 pines.
Students turned work into entertainment: carrying buckets of water in front of them, standing in line for shovels to dig holes for seedlings, taking selfies and filming the process. However, under the strict guidance of the economic department, the main purpose of the event was not forgotten.
"Students came with pleasure. They have a positive attitude to the development and landscaping of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Politechnic Institute, "said Oksana Zakharchenko, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Radio Engineering, adding that RTF has other environmental initiatives. In addition, the faculty has its own mascot tree - a plane tree, which is under a hundred years old. "When our faculty came along, the founder planted a plane tree. 90 years have passed since then, the tree has grown large, we often show it to visitors. By the way, next year, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the faculty, our dean also offered to plant trees so that current freshmen could come and see the trees they planted, ”Ms. Oksana shared her plans.
Pro-rector for administrative work Vadym Kondratyuk not only planted trees, but also gave a short lecture on botany. "We plant hornbeam and pine here. Of course, we will take care of the seedlings: in the spring we will mix a little sand into the soil under them so that the pine breathes. It doesn't like water, it grows on sands, ”says Vadym Anatoliyovych enthusiastically about the newly planted tree.
The Student Council also sent its horticultural "landing force": its chairman Danylo Yaremchuk brought with him three more people from the council's assets. "This is the first tree I have planted in my life," the student points to a fragile pine tree generously watered.
The students managed to plant the trees quite quickly: in an hour and a half all the seedlings were in place: most of them were in the Park of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Politechnic Institute, others were near the university buildings and the library. The most active were representatives of RTF, MMI, IEE, FL, IAT, TEF, PBF. "Thank you very much for your active help in planting trees! We hope that even more faculties will join the initiatives, ”Natalia Seminska, Vice-Rector for Education, thanked the participants of the landscaping.
The eco-action was supported by the DendroKyiv City Center for Alternative Landscaping, which provided planting material free of charge.
