Celebration in honor of Kyiv polytechnics who sacrificed their lives during the revolution of dignity and in fights on the east of Ukraine was held at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on 5th anniversary of tragic events (18-20 February, 2014).
Students of Institute of Special Communication and Information Security and other faculties and institutes, teaching staff and workers of National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” laid flowers to a monument to Kyiv polytechnics who gave their lives for Ukraine. The monument is established near interconfessional church of Saint Nicholas.
“Our students and colleagues participated actively in the Revolution of Dignity. Kyiv polytechnics are ones of Heroes of Heavenly Hundred. Yuriy Bondarev died at those days and lately other members of our collective sacrificed their lives for our freedom: Yuriy Popravka was tortured at Donechina in the spring of that year and yet twelve polytechnics participated and died in fights on the east of Ukraine” – emphasized rector Michael Zgurovsky at the ceremony. He added that more than 300 our students and colleagues were volunteers to go at sharp end. Furthermore 31 regular employees were mobilized. University’s volunteers actively helped military forces. Also scientists of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute made a great contribution into Armed Troops: our remotely piloted vehicles, our small arms (we made more than 35 types of special equipment) were very useful for them.
Laying flowers in front of memorial tablets to Heroes of Ukraine Sergiy Bondarev and Yuriy Popravka took place that day. It was held at the buildings where faculty of Informatics and Computer Science and faculty of Sociology and Law are placed.
So, among thousands of heroes who sacrificed their lives for freedom and independence of Ukraine are our students: the student of extra-mural subfaculty of Informatics and Computer Science of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Sergiy Bondarev, the student of extra-mural division of a faculty of Sociology and Law Yuriy Popravka, the graduate of Military institute Max Shapoval, member of faculty of Electronics Andriy Jeremenko, the student of Institute of Mechanical Engineering Yuriy Artukh, the student of Welding faculty Vadum Zherebylo, the graduate of Institute of Mechanical Engineering Volodymyr Kochetkov-Sukach, the student of faculty of Sociology and Law Vladyslav Dyusov, the student of faculty of Biotechnology and Biotechnics Alexander Kondratyuk, the employee of general services Myhailo Fedorenko, employees and graduates of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Igor Pavlov, Igor Schevchenko, Olexandr Petryshchuk and Pavel Mazurenko.
