On September 26, the XIХ International Scientific and Practical Conference «Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in the XXI Century» was opened at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
The conference is devoted to the 120th anniversary of the creation of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute , the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering and Automation of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Its organizers were the Renewable Energy Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Representation of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, The Intersectoral Scientific and Technical Center of Wind Energy of the IWE of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine,Public Association "Ukrainian Hydrogen Council" and, of course, the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
«Throughout its history, the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute have been trying to keep pace with scientific and technological progress. This conference is evidence of this, because renewable energy is one of those industries that are most dynamically developing in the leading countries of the world,»- said, congratulating the conference participants, the first vice-rector of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute,Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yuriy Yakymenko.- The success of this work should combine the efforts of science, education, business. I note that in Ukraine, comprehensive research on renewable energy was first launched on the basis of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in 1979, under the direction of the then rector, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Grygory Ivanovych Denysenko. In fact, then the first groups of researchers in this area were formed. The topic is developing and the International Scientific and Practical Conference «Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in the XXI Century, which is already in the nineteenth, is a vivid confirmation of that.»
Scientists, engineers and managers working in the field of energy and gathered at the conference were also congratulated by the Director of the Institute of Electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician-secretary of the Department of Physical and Technical Problems of Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Olexandr Kyrylenko, Advisor to the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Viktor Shovkalyuk, Director of the Delegation of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kyiv Henrik Sobchyk, Chairman of the Board of the Public Association «Ukrainian Hydrogen Council»Olexandr Repkin, Head of the State Energy Efficiency and Energy Efficiency Agency of Ukraine Sergiy Savchuk and others.
The opening ceremony of the conference was completed by signing memorandums of cooperation between the Renewable Energy Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, headed by Stepan Kudrya, Corresponding Member of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Automation of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the Civil Society Association «Solar Energy Association of Ukraine», and the same institute and the Public Union «Energy Association «Ukrainian Hydrogen Council».
During three days the participants will discuss the problems and prospects for the development of the use of renewable energy sources, electricity and bioenergy resources, heat of the land and heat supply of the country due to the energy of the sun, wind, hydropower resources, as well as implementation of measures for energy saving and energy efficiency. At present, these problems become of particular relevance, since the generation of energy from fossil fuels not only constantly increases, but also causes significant environmental damage, besides, the reserves of combustible minerals are quickly exhausted. Therefore, in many countries the use of RES is increasing year by year. Investments in this industry are also increasing, China is the leader in annual investment in this industry. And Germany, for example, set an ambitious target to transfer 100% of its electricity generation to RES by 2040. In Ukraine, plans are more modest, but in Ukraine, according to the Energy Strategy of Ukraine, the share of RES (including hydropower and thermal energy) in 2035 is planned to reach 25% of the total primary energy supply. And in the Ukrainian electricity generation, this figure should be more than 25%.
However, on the way to expanding the use of RES there are also problems that should be solved both for scientists and industrialists. Rather, solve them together. A number of such problems and proposals to overcome them will also be considered at this conference. Therefore, its topics are quite wide: energy efficiency; integrated systems with REE; wind power; solar power; biomass energy; hydropower; geothermal energy; educational activity; hydrogen energy; environmental energy (heat pumps) and smart grids.
A separate event within the framework of the conference was an exhibition-presentation of innovative products for the power industry from domestic producers. It was deployed in the open air near the monument to Igor Sikorsky.
Scientists from the USA, Germany, Kazakhstan, the People's Republic of China, as well as representatives of scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukrainian universities, universities, central and local government bodies and businesses take part in the conference. In addition, the program of the conference provides for the holding of a conference on the final day of the youth section, which will be attended by, graduate students and students with their startup projects and students - members of the Minor Academy of Sciences. The participants in this section will not only work in the traditional format for listening and discussing reports and reviews but also get acquainted with the work of the Ukrainian-Polish Center for the Improvement of Technologies for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, which works at the Department of Renewable Energy Sources of the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering and Automation of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
