Students and staff of the university were able to check their hearing free of charge on the up-to-date audiometry equipment of the All For the Ears Company in the 31st building during two days, on November 14-15, 2018. The opportunity was taken by 104 people (70% - students, 30% - employees). 11 people found hearing impairment (6 students and 5 employees), which confirmed WHO and SHO statistics: every 10 people in Ukraine (the world) have hearing impairment but do not know about it. People with the revealed violations were offered a further free examination, the results of which should delivered by the doctor-otolaryngologist.
The checking of hearing was made possible thanks to the social project “Unmute” partnered by the company “All for the ear”, and supported by the Student Social Service of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The purpose of the action was to encourage student youth to maintain their own health and to dispel the myth that hearing loss relates only to the elderly. Especially in the modern world, when young people listen to a lot of music at high volume and almost every day face noise pollution. And, since hearing loss is not always noticeable subjectively, it's important to detect the presence of violations in a timely manner and seek medical advice. According to WHO, timely detected hearing impairment is cured in most cases.
Within the framework of the action, the employee of the company “All for the ear”, graduate of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Maxym Melnychenko, handed over a modern audiometer to the department of acoustics and acoustoelectronics of FEL, where he studied, for practical purposes.
