On April, 12th the round table devoted to the 55th anniversary of Yu. O. Gagarin’s space flight and the development of rocket-space potential of Ukraine took place in the Academic Board Hall of NTUU ‘KPI’.
The State Polytechnic Museum of NTUU ‘KPI’ and Nationwide Community of Public Organizations ‘Ukrainian Strategic Missile Troops (SMT) Veterans Union’ organized the round table in NTUU ‘KPI’.
The directors of the State Space Agency of Ukraine, veterans of Baikonur, Kapustyn Iar, Plesetsk, veterans of Strategic Missile Troops, veterans and employees of space industry enterprises of Kyiv, NTUU ‘KPI’ students, Junior Academy of Science members (Kyiv), servicemen of Military Forces of Ukraine, pupils of Secondary School №36 named after S.P. Korolov.
M.Z. Zhurovskyi, rector of NTUU ‘KPI’, opened the meeting with a greeting work.
V.I. Leonenko, the participant of the first launch of Vostok space craft with Yu.O. Gagarin, gave a speech ‘Epochal event of ХХ century’. Gagarin’s speech on the audio before the flight sounded very moving. L. I. Kadeniuk, the spaceman, the Hero of Ukraine, spoke about the first spaceman of the planet Earth and the value of Gagarin’s flight for the whole humanity.
E.I. Kuznetsov, the counsellor of the State Space Agency of Ukraine, reported on the perspectives of spacecraft and space shuttles engineering in Ukraine. M.I. Ilchenko, vice-rector of NTUU ‘KPI’, highlighted the space reclamation by the scientists and engineers of KPI. V.A. Kovaliov, a professor of the MMI NTUU ‘KPI’, gave a speech ‘Space exploration. What has the human achieved? What will the future bring to the Earth habitants?’ M.M. Filatov, the head of the nationwide community of SMT veterans union, the major general, spoke about the role of the civil veteran organizations in the military and patriotic education of the young generations.
According to the Order of the President of Space Community of Ukraine, A.F. Yukin, Yu.V. Myrnyi, Baikonur veterans, were awarded with the ‘Order of Merit’ and the honorary titles ‘The veteran of space industry of Ukraine’ were delivered to V.I. Leonenko, V.F. Korolov, V.T. Gladchenko, Baikonur veterans.
Finally, the round table guests and participants took picture next to S.P. Korolov memorial.
