A large exhibition "Ukrainian folk costumes and embroidery" is opened in art parlor on FSL. The collection is based on the exhibits from the collections H.Yu.Marchenko, M.I.Tanskiy, L.M.Yukalo, V.F.Buyanovsky and O.P.Onufriyenko. Its proponents are Dean FSL prof. B.V.Novikov, Assoc. V.H.Semenov and senior teacher N.K.Husak, whose research interests touch of creativity, including art. It should be noted that all the staff of the faculty are actively interested in the exhibition and add to with rarity products of craftsmen. Scientific and methodological advices were provided by the renowned anthropologist Helen Gromov. The exhibition contains graphic ethnographic works H.Yu.Marchenko.
There are among the exhibits ancient and modern embroidered and woven towels, rugs, tablecloths and shirts, among the outerwear - kersetky, sardaks and other items Ukrainian national dress. Household items are decorated with embroidered symbolic patterns. The exhibition is the result of years of ethnographic expeditions of the organizers to the Carpathians, in Kiev, Poltava and Cherkasy regions.
The purpose of the exhibition is a demonstration of traditional aesthetics Ukrainian folk costumes and familiarization with the content of patterns - old pictures information systems. Traditional folk patterns (embroidered, carved, painted) are kind of icon, which encoded the philosophical notion of family and family events and deep feelings. These sign systems should look like geometric symbols and images and allegories Ukrainian flora and fauna. Powerful emotional information is contained in colors. They are mostly black and red in the east of Ukraine and orange and green in the Carpathian Mountains.
The oldest landmark composition - "tree of life" or "tree of tribe." Towels with such symbols are on display, they have been produced in the 19th century. The value of the other characters Octagon - solar signs; horse, cock, clove - symbols of the male and youthful strength; rose - female character; chick - young bride; pair of doves - love, marriage, two pigeons, staring in different directions - separation; grape - a desire to increase race; viburnum - virginity. Some pattern was the emblem of the genus. In the Carpathians, and is still recognizable by its color and pattern on clothing the place of living.
A particular importance in traditional Ukrainian family is given to a towel - a kind of meaningful flag amulet. Its contents are commonly expressed in some character set. Towels without black color covered the baptismal baby. The young pair at marriage is set on the towel. Towel tied matchmakers and recruits. Finally the coffin of the deceased was lowered into the grave, too, on a towel. It was a family heirloom that is passed down from generation to generation, gift lover, memories of weddings and youth. At one towel, presented in the exhibition, where the Cossack and the girl are near the well and there is an embroidered inscription:
"And this is the well where the pigeon was bathing.
And this is the girl he loved. "
Towel - decoration, guardian of the holy images in homes and churches, as well as the decoration of portraits of ancestors. Spiritual Art work in embroidery and weaving was an alternative to the heavy routine of peasant labor. And Towel was a message of disadvantaged soul to its creator to the higher forces of good. At one of the towel there is a text
"I did not sleep the night - embroidered towel
And asked God that my destiny will be happy. "
Thus, the Ukrainian People's embroidered towel is an ancient amulet of a family, as well as identity, our national "Chronicle" sacred and religious rituals, emotional feelings and aesthetic preferences.
Another purpose of the exhibition - to draw attention of the youth to a beautiful and functional polished by ages folk costume, encourage its use in celebrations and weddings. Beautiful student, try to wear embroidered shirt, necklace and wreath with ribbons - you do not recognize yourself. You become mysterious and magical. Take a picture in memory and give the guy that you like. A positive result will be a must! To guys we recommend Hutsul or Cossack costumes. This metamorphosis of a typical young man in jeans and sneakers, in practice, positively impresses girls. In a beautiful national clothes a person begins to feel different historical and cultural context.
Unfortunately, the general degradation of Ukrainian traditional folk culture, by the way, as all Slavic cultures, and in the material impoverishment, family rarities - towels and embroidered clothing, at a loss of understanding of its cultural value, massively sold for a pittance and get abroad .
As the memory of ancestors and to preserve folk art every family should store towels and shirts, which we got from grandmothers and great-grandmothers. When they embroidered, they hoped for our gratitude.
