ISZZI of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute functions as a military training unit (military institute) of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” with the status of an educational institution of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine (hereinafter – The State Special Communications)

ISZZI of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was created on the basis of the Law of Ukraine "On the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine" by order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 27.12.2006 № 658-r "On the establishment of the Institute of Special Communications and Information Protection of the National Technical University "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", by a joint order of the State Special Communications Service and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 20.03.2007 № 31/217, on the basis of the Special Faculty of the Security Service of Ukraine as a part of Igor Sikorsky KPI.

Training of specialists at the Institute is carried out in the following specialties:

  • 122 Computer Science,
  • 125 Cybersecurity,
  • 172 Telecommunications and Radio Engineering

according to corresponding educational and professional programs at the first (bachelor's) level, at the second (master's) level and according to corresponding educational and scientific programs at the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education.

To ensure the educational process, the Institute has five special departments (three of which are graduate).

  • Special Department № 1 is a graduate department and trains specialists in the specialty 125 Cybersecurity.
  • Special Department № 2 trains specialists in general military and tactical-special disciplines.
  • Special Department № 3 is a graduate department and trains specialists in the specialty 172 Telecommunications and Radio Engineering.
  • Special Department № 4 trains specialists in the disciplines of natural sciences, basic, socio-humanitarian, professional and practical training.
  • Special Department № 5 is a graduate department and trains specialists in the specialty 122 Computer Science.

ISZZI of Igor Sikorsky KPI has a modern material and technical base for the organization of quality educational process as well as scientific and technical activities, which includes a training complex with modern specialized laboratories and computer classes, which help cadets to get in-depth knowledge of professional and special disciplines. In particular, a situational training center on cybersecurity, training laboratories for technical information protection and a training communications center have been established. In addition, there is a CISCO Academy, which provides cadets with additional opportunities to gain practical experience in configuring and administering network equipment and receive internationally recognized certificates.

Currently ISZZI of Igor Sikorsky KPI has 15 Doctors of Sciences and 51 Candidates of Sciences. One employee has the honorary title of "Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine", two are the laureates of State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, 10 have the honorary award "Excellent Worker of Education of Ukraine".

Training of higher education applicants at the first (bachelor's) level of higher education is carried out 1 year as a student and 3 years as a cadet.

Training of higher education applicants at the second (master's) level of higher education is carried out 1 year 4 months in the status of a cadet.

Cadets of all courses are on full state support.

In addition, training of doctoral research scholars is carried out in full time mode of study (daytime) and full time mode (evening) of study by officers of State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection. The term of training is 4 years.

In order to integrate the educational process of the Institute with the University, the disciplines of natural science, basic and socio-humanitarian training are taught by scientific and pedagogical staff of the University.

Admission to study at ISZZI of Igor Sikorsky KPI is carried out in accordance with the Annex to the Rules of admission to the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" for applicants to the Institute of Special Communications and Information Protection of Igor Sikorsky KPI.

After graduation, graduates of ISZZI of Igor Sikorsky KPI are issued a University diploma, awarded the military rank of junior lieutenant (in case of obtaining a bachelor's degree) or lieutenant (after obtaining a master's degree) and they are sent for further military service to units of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection.

ISZZI of Igor Sikorsky KPI provides advanced training on the basis of the order of the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine dated 27.04.2012 №1485-l (Appendix 1), Information on educational activities in the field of higher education of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, on the basis of concluded agreements at the expense of legal entities and individuals.

The Institute has a specialized academic council SRК 26.002.30, with the right to accept for consideration and defense of dissertations marked "secret" and "top secret" for the degree of candidate of technical sciences in specialties 01.05.02 Mathematical Modeling and Computational Methods and 21.05. 01 Information Security of the State.

In 2018, the decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, СRK 26.002.30 granted the exclusive right to accept for consideration and defense of dissertations marked "For Official Use" in these specialties.

The Institute publishes 2 printed professional publications, which are included in the List of scientific professional publications of Ukraine (category B) by the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 02.07.2020 № 886:

collection "Information Technology and Security", aimed at publishing the main scientific results of dissertations and research papers by applicants for scientific degrees and academic titles, as well as applicants for a master's degree;

collection "Special Telecommunications Systems and Information Protection", aimed at publishing the main scientific results of dissertations and scientific papers containing scientific and scientific-technical information with limited access.
