Massive open online courses (POOC) - a combination of free video lectures of the best teachers, interactive tasks and forums for discussion of educational materials, are becoming more common in the curricula of the universities. This format of "mixed education" envisages the use of MOOC country's leading universities in the learning process of less powerful universities, where they replace lectures and current control, leaving more time for teachers to work individually with students and research.
Three years ago, Stanford University (USA) offered to everyone free of charge to go through three of its courses via the Internet. About 160 thousand students from 190 countries of the world attended only one of these courses. In June 2014, there are already in the world about 2600 MOOC. Dozens of leading universities around the world create their own MOOC.
As with any new business, MOOC gained supporters and opponents. The latter do not believe if any online courses can compete with an experienced teacher that works with live student audience. However,as evidenced by these figures, not only can, but also win in this competition. Qualitative public open online course demonstrated learning outcomes higher than a similar standard lecture course on the campus of Polytechnic University a better world - MIT.
Teachers who care about the online education in Ukraine are joining forces to provide the best educational opportunities for every citizen of Ukraine regardless of their place of residence, age, and health status. In particular, the MOOC public project "Prometheus" creates and publishes on its website online courses, offers a free opportunity to universities, leading companies and teachers publish and distribute courses on this platform. The registration has already begun on the first training courses of university level from teachers KNU of Shevchenko, NTUU "KPI" and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Successful completion of the course makes it possible to obtain an electronic certificate of acquired knowledge. Kiev Polytechnics presented courses: "Design and Analysis of Algorithms" of Alexey Molchanov and "Fundamentals of programming in Python" of Nikita Pavlyuchenko.
Nikita Pavlyuchenko – the graduate of FICT, web developer with experience of over 9 years. From 2011 he is the lecturer, Department of automated information processing systems and management FICT. "It so happened - he says - that we live in the 21st century, and the programming profession is still exotic and incomprehensible to the majority of society, like the role of the shaman for our ancestors. The purpose of mass online course" Principles of programming in Python "is, first of all, to dispel this myth and show to everyone how the personal computer works and what is programming. "
Alex Molchanovsky - Senior Lecturer, Department of automated data processing systems and management FICT, is working at the Department AIPCS since 2006. In 2004 he graduated from the NTUU "KPI" with specialty "Information Control Systems and Technologies". He got Master’s diploma with honors in computer science. In 2007 he finished graduate school NTUU "KPI". Research interests - artificial intelligence, mathematical logic. Author of more than 20 scientific publications. In 2013-2014, Intern at the Georgia Institute of Technology on a Fulbright Scholarship Program Fund (USA).
"Course" Design and Analysis of Algorithms, "- he says - is based on two subjects taught in the KPI for the specialty" Information Control Systems and Technologies "," Theory of algorithms "and" Discrete Mathematics. Graph theory. "Although both the names of objects contains the word theory, proposed course is aimed primarily at solving practical problems."
