In the distant 1946, the Kiev Polytechnic Institute established a dance club. His first artistic director was the choreographer Zakharov, the first concertmaster - Litvinov. Participants of the group performed "Gopak", "Krijachok", "Moldoveniyasku", "Lezginka", dances, as they said, countries of national democracy in festive concerts on stage and venues of Kyiv.
In 1952, the head of the dance group was the Honored Artist of Ukraine Lidia Chernyshova, who at the same time was artistic director of the State Dance Ensemble of the Ukrainian SSR (now - the National Honored Academic Dance Ensemble named after Pavlo Virsky). By that time, the team had 60 participants. The period of the most active participation of KPI students in the choreographic art began.
From 1965 to 1972 Volodymyr Arkadyevich Kozulin led the team; in 1973-1974 - Mark Matveyevich Klyat. The ensemble members created large-scale choreographic numbers, with which they repeatedly performed in festive programs on the stage of the KPI and on the main stages of Kiev - "Gopak", "Georgian", "Along the street", "Gypsy Suite". A great enthusiasm for spectators was caused by pop dances "Hallo, Dolly" and "Russian souvenir" performed by female ensemble.
The ensemble participated in all festive events held in Kyiv: choreographic performances at the May, October and New Year holidays on Khreshchatyk, on the holidays of the Harvest Day and the Carnival on open stages of the Exhibition of the achievements of the national economy and parks, on the Days of the Cities of Kyiv Region. In May 1982, "Polytechnic" performed at the Central Stadium in the combined choreographic suite of dance groups of our city during the solemn celebration of the 1500th anniversary of the founding of Kiev.
In the summer of 1983 a group of participants in the Polytechnic, as part of the agitribry, visited concerts in the Tyumen region of Russia. The ensemble has visited 9 cities, in particular Tyumen, Surgut, Nizhny Novgorod, gave 20 concerts. Performances on small and big scenes took place in a warm atmosphere, spectators applauded the skill of our students.
From 1985 to 1990, the ensemble was led by Volodymyr Ivanovich Sharaurov. The teacher-tutor of the team in those years was Vitaliy Dmitrievich Gusovsky, now - artistic director of the team of the Center of Choreographic Mastery "Veselad". "Polytechnic" performs new dances: "Congratulations", "Carpathians", "Bukovin dance", "Gopak", "Vesnyanka", "Chubariki", Moldovan dance, Slovak dance, Cuban dance, "Metelitsa", "Anthem works". In 1985, the ensemble participated in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War in the complex large-scale choreographic numbers of the dance groups of Kyiv at the Central Stadium of the city. The Polytechnic's performances were always welcomed on holidays in the KPI - the Days of the First-year student, the faculty competitions "Golden Integral", international student festivals of Peace.
In the spring-summer of 1986 the ensemble performed concerts for liquidators of the Chernobyl accident and settlers from the Chernobyl zone. During these concerts, the band was awarded a holiday on the Black Sea coast of Romania. In the spring of 1987 the ensemble traveled to Czechoslovakia as part of the train of friendship. The group performed with bright concerts in Bratislava, Brno, Prague. In the same 1987 the collective became the laureate of the II All-Union Festival of Folk Art. For active participation in all choreographic mass events in Kiev, for dance skills and various and bright choreographic numbers in 1988, the collective was awarded the honorary title of "folk".
In the spring of 1990, a group of dancers consisting of a visiting brigade of creative amateur teams of the KPI spent almost a month in the United States under the "Up With People" American Movement Program. Our artists visited 9 states, visited Washington, New York, Boston, performed in 11 cities. They lived in American families. In the afternoon they conducted rehearsals and study tours to American enterprises, cultural institutions, educational institutions. In the evening there were performances. With a special capture, standing, thousands of American spectators applauded "Hopak" performed by the dance group "Polytechnic".
From 1990 to 1997 Artistic Director of the collective was the ballet master-director Aleksandr Sergeyevich Malinovsky. In the repertoire of this time the rooms: "Ukrainian patterns", choreographic picture "At the hayfield", "Vichylas", "Gopak", Gypsy dance. In 1993 the collective became the winner of the international festival "Babegur Autumn" in Zavoieva, Poland; in 1996 - the winner of the international festival "Lesina song" in Lutsk.
In 1997-2015, the ensemble continued its creative work under the direction of Maria Mizek. In the repertoire of the group there were such determinants as "Hailing", "Gopak", "Pleshkach", "Krakovak", "Transcarpathian". Every year, in spring, the band performed initially at the district, and then on the city report-review-competition with the program in two departments and repeatedly became the winner of the district, city, republican festivals of amateur folk art. Over all this time more than 3000 amateur lovers learned dance art.
In October 2015 Ulyana Zakharova became artistic director of the collective. The ensemble has completely renewed the repertoire and has already managed to go on tour in eight countries: Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Liechtenstein, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary. November 15, 2016 at the Center for Culture and Arts of the KPI them. Igor Sikorsky held a festive concert on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the People's folk dance ensemble "Polytechnic". Many former members and teachers of the ensemble gathered in the hall. Honorary guests were present: the daughter of the leaders of the ensemble of Zastrozhnovs - Olena Vladimirovna, former leaders of the ensemble O.S.Malinovsky, DVEfanov, V.D.Gusovsky, head of the KPI Club in 1979-2000 Larysa Vasylivna Melnik, dean of the choreographic faculty art of the Kiev National University of Culture and Arts Larysa Yu. Tsvetkova and others.
At this concert, the collective of the ensemble performed the following rooms: "Greeting", "Gopak", "Volyn polka", "Kupalskie tannock", "Moldavian dance", "Chorbiv podkivki", Jewish dance "Bless the dad!", "Karapet, or Walking on the Podil ".

Children of the ensemble Veselad created the horribly choreographic image "Potters". At one time this number was in the repertoire Polytechnic. The Sihanna Dance Ensemble of the Kyiv Higher Professional School of Technology and Clothing Design congratulated our team on the "Rhythms of Spain" dance. The Veselka ensemble performed the Belarusian dance "Krutucha", the ensemble of folk dance "Kyiv" performed a choreographic production "Slavic motives". Concertmaster of the Polytechnic Dance Ensemble pianist Yevgeny Yevchenko performed "Nocturne in B Flat Major" by the outstanding Polish composer Friederick Chopin.
The concert took place in the presence of the Certification Commission of the Kyiv City Center for Folklore and Cultural Studies. After completion of the speeches, its head - the director of the center, the Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine Mykola Peresunko announced that, following the review of the dance program, the commission decided on the confirmation of the collective of the title "folk amateur group".
The artistic director, choreographer Ulyana Zakharova convinces that these are just next steps to the highest achievements of art that will be given to dancers to viewers in Ukraine and abroad.
The current Polytechnic warehouse deserves the work of its predecessors. This is not just a dance group, it is a large and friendly family, united by the fine art of folk dance. This is a team that our University can be proud of.
