In early March, the scientific community of Ukraine and the world celebrated the 150th anniversary of Eugene Oskarovych Paton. On this occasion, a number of events were held in Kiev, one of which was the laying of flowers at the monument to the great scientist and engineer, installed on the Museum Square of the University. The ceremony, held on March 5, was attended by members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, employees of the Paton Electric Welding Institute, teachers, employees, students and postgraduates of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
The figure of Eugene Paton is very significant for our university, because it was at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute where his talent as a bridge builder was fully revealed, here he started his research activities in the field of electric welding, within our walls he brought up several generations of famous scientists and engineers. The monument erected in front of the entrance to the State Polytechnic Museum (the initiator of its creation and its first director was, by the way, also Eugene Paton) is a testimony of deep gratitude and respect to one of the most famous teachers and scientists.
"Eugene Oskarovych Paton is the man who, without exaggeration, changed the world. Thanks to him, mankind received new technologies, accelerated the scientific and technological progress in many areas, - said the rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Mykhailo Zgurovsky, opening the ceremony of flowers laying. - We, Kyiv Polytechnics, have great respect for Eugene Paton and his family members - the sons of Vladimir Yevgenyevych and Boris Yevgenyevych. The Patonov dynasty is closely connected with our university."
It is worth noting that, apart from the bust on the scientist's grave, the Eugene Paton monument on the territory of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is the only one in our country. It has an interesting history.
