Professor Serhii Vasylovych Strutynskyi of the Applied Fluid Mechanics and Mechatronics Department at the Educational and Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (MMI) represents a new generation of researchers who combine fundamental science, practical expertise, and engineering creativity to develop innovative solutions. His professional career has been closely connected with Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, where he progressed from student and PhD candidate to professor and leader of both fundamental and applied research projects.

Early in his academic career, Serhii focused his research on mechanics, fluid mechanics, and robotic systems. Years of dedicated work resulted in significant scientific achievements in the development and improvement of high-precision mechanical systems, hydrostatic and aerostatic bearings, manipulators, and robotic complexes. His PhD dissertation was devoted to the scientific principles underlying the development of adjustable spherical fluid-film bearings used in high-precision specialized equipment. His doctoral dissertation focused on the study of function-oriented components for hydraulic and pneumatic drive systems employed in robots and robotic manipulators.

Today, Professor Strutynskyi's research interests encompass ground robotic systems, spatial drive systems, function-oriented components, spherical joints, fluid-film bearings, elastically deformable joints and actuators, micro-positioning devices, as well as mathematical modeling and spectral analysis. These research areas are aimed at making machines and mechanisms more precise, reliable, efficient, and capable of adapting to changing operating conditions. In addition to his research, Serhii Strutynskyi is a highly experienced educator who is actively involved in the comprehensive training of specialists in the Applied Mechanics program. He teaches courses including Theory of Mechanisms and Machines, Computer-Aided Design and Engineering, Robotic Manipulators, and other specialized disciplines.

In addition, Professor Strutynskyi regularly publishes the results of his research in Ukrainian and international scientific journals. He is the author of more than 200 scientific publications, including two monographs and 10 papers indexed in the Scopus database. He also holds eight Ukrainian patents for inventions and 15 Ukrainian utility model patents. His recent research focuses on the mathematical modeling of complex mechanical systems, intelligent mechatronic systems, advanced control methods for robotic complexes, and the development of innovative engineering solutions for industrial applications.

It is therefore no surprise that Professor Strutynskyi regularly presents the results of his research at international conferences and scientific forums, while his developments are showcased at specialized exhibitions and applied in the creation of new engineering devices and systems. He has presented his innovative solutions at the International Industrial Forum (2018, 2019, 2021, and 2023) and at the International Specialized Exhibition Arms and Security (2018 and 2019). Another important aspect of his work is promoting innovation-driven entrepreneurship and the startup culture at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Together with students and early-career researchers, he has participated in—and advanced to the finals of—the Sikorsky Challenge Innovation Project Festival in 2013, 2017, 2018–2020, 2022, and 2025.

Professor Strutynskyi's outstanding achievements in both research and teaching are reflected in his repeated recognition as a winner of the university's Young Teacher-Researcher competition, most recently in 2025. He is widely recognized as a highly qualified specialist in mechanical engineering with a strong results-oriented approach. Under his supervision, more than ten master's theses have been successfully completed and defended, while two PhD candidates are currently preparing to defend their dissertations.

Professor Strutynskyi has also made a significant contribution, together with his students and colleagues, to the success of engineering solutions developed by the Applied Fluid Mechanics and Mechatronics Department of the Educational and Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (MMI) at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Devices created by the department have proven their effectiveness both during the aftermath of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident and in supporting operations during the ongoing war in Ukraine.
