The bell tower of St. Michael's Monastery built in the years 1716-1719 in place of disassembled wooden bell tower in the Ukrainian Baroque style. The bell tower has three tiers and 23 bells.

In Soviet times, due to the construction of a new government center in the years 1934-1936 tower, together with the Bishops house walls and farm buildings, was dismantled. A year later blew up in the air the main church of the former monastery - St. Michael's Cathedral.

New Life belfry received during the restoration of the cathedral and other buildings of the monastery, which lasted 1997-1998. Bell tower was rebuilt on photographs and measurements made before destruction. Innovation was an arrangement of the second floor in honor of the Three Saints (consecrated in 1999 in memory of the ruined church of the Three Hierarchs, the site of which is the building of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine and eat all Soviet repression). Also on the first floor of the bell tower and in the nearby Barbara housing a museum of history of the monastery and its architectural ensemble. Also got a new bell tower clock and carillon (which can be done to bells virtually any piece of music), now the bell announcing citizens and guests every fifteen minutes, and at the south - play a big tune. Updated wall paintings on the walls that externally adjacent to the bell tower (which is true in the modern style).

At the historic St. Michael's bell tower, destroyed in 1930, never had dials with arrows. It was found chimes, like Monastery. Somehow, they often break. And in the "Description of Kyiv" M.Zakrevskoho (1868) noted that the clock is "spoiled went into oblivion." During playback, the bell tower, in March 1998, it was decided to revive not only watch, but also to equip its dial.
