The opening ceremony of the XVII International Conference n. a. Academician Mykhaylo Kravchuk was held on May 19 in the Hall of the Academic Council of NTUU "KPI". The participants were more than 400 scientists from Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Poland, Russia, Uzbekistan, Czech Republic.
Mykhaylo Pylypovych Kravchuk (1892-1942) is one of the most prominent Ukrainian mathematicians of the twentieth century whose works on various branches of mathematics came to the world of science. He worked in the KPI in 1925-1935 and was the head of the department of mathematics and taught Arkhyp Lulka, Sergiy Korolyov, Volodymyr Chelomey - future major famous engineers. In 1938 he was arrested and died in the camps of Kolyma.
At the ceremonial opening of the conference participants were welcomed by the first vice-rector of NTUU "KPI", academician of NAS of Ukraine Yuriy Yakimenko - community representatives of Chovnytsya village where Mykhaylo Kravcuk was born and spent his childhood, Eugeniya Lukashuk and Lesya Svinovey-Lukashuk; the president of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine professor Olexander Nakonechny, professor of KNU n. a. Taras Shevchenko Olexander Kukush, assistant professor of mathematical analysis and probability theory Ph.D. Nadiya Zaderey. Students of FMF who are scholarship fellows received diplomas. All speakers expressed their gratitude to professor Nina Virchenko who has done much to perpetuate the memory about Kravchuk. She initiated the conferences in his name which has been held since 1992. At the end of the ceremonial meeting participants listened to songs performed by bandura-player Vitaliy Moroz and the teacher of mathematics of NTUU "KPI", the winner of international song contests Larisa Kotsyuk and fragments of documentary about Mykhaylo Kravchuk "The world knows that he is Ukrainian." After the end of the opening ceremony the work on sections began "Differential and Integral Equations, their use," "Algebra. Geometry. Mathematical Analysis"," Probability theory and Mathematical statistics" and "History and methodology of mathematics.»
