Actions within the final part of the National stage of the pupils’ scientific and technical creativity Intel ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair) international contest began in the Center of culture and arts of NTUU "KPI" on February 18.
The contest national stage is hold under the patronage of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Head department of science and education of the Kiev city administration.
The contest is organized and hold on the basis of National Technical University of Ukraine "Kiev Polytechnic Institute" (the organizer is Physico-Technical Institute) on the following categories: "Mathematical sciences", "Physics and astronomy", "Computer science", "Engineering" and "Power".
"I am happy to welcome participants of this remarkable contest of young researchers and inventors, - Mikhailo Zgurovskyi, rector of NTUU "KPI", Academician of NASU, the chairman of organizing committee noted at the opening ceremony of contest final part. It is great honor for our university to hold such contest and thereby to maintain the traditions which have dominated here since the first days of its existence".
The national stage of the contest Intel ISEF in Ukraine traditionally began in October, 2013. The contest’s actions, on which participants of the Kiev final were determined, took place in the majority of the country regions. 217 projects and pupils’ works from 20 Ukraine regions, AR Crimea, Kyiv and the command project from Tbilisi (Georgia), which participates in an exhibition out of competition, were selected for participation in the national final. Winners will receive prizes along with the right to submit their projects on the Intel ISEF World Final in Los-Angeles (California, USA) from 11th to 16th May, 2014.
The contest final part will last for four days.
On February 18 – participants’ projects and works demonstration and ceremonial opening
On February 19 – poster of academic papers jury-format interview, announcements of contest superfinalists
From 18-30 to 21-30 February - the superfinal
In addition, actions within educational Intel academy "Science in School" will take place
On February 20, from 10:00 till 17:00 - open exhibition of entries for Kyiv pupils and performance of Student's scientific theater "MagicLab"
On February 21 at 11:30 - summarizing, award ceremony and official closing
The leading scientists and teachers from scientific and academic institutions of Ukraine (Institutes of National academy of Sciences of Ukraine, NTUU "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" and others), and also leading young scientists are among members of All Ukrainian contest scientific jury.
Determining winners award panel estimates not only scientific level of projects, but also pays attention to features which increase success chances of Intel ISEF including presentation and communication skills of contestants (ability to communicate effectively, answer questions, hold their own), logical thinking, mastery of English, independence and projects completion, conformance to the requirements and categories of the Contest.
The international contest of pupils’ scientific and technical creativity Intel ISEF is the world largest contest of research and development projects of senior pupils, young scientists and engineers. The Intel ISEF world final is held annually in one of the cities of the USA in May. Intel ISEF title sponsor is the world famous corporation Intel since 1996. Nowadays this contest is one of the most large-scale educational initiatives of this corporation. Agilent Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent, Ricoh and others are among other sponsors of the world contest.
Annually more than 1500 best young scientists and inventors from more than 50 countries become participants of the contest world final. They demonstrate innovative scientific projects, share ideas at the contest and also win numerous prestigious awards, prizes and grants. The prize fund makes more than 4 million US dollars. Money is spent for awards for the first, second, third and fourth places (in total about 600 awards) in each category (3000, 1500, 1000 and 500 US dollars, respectively), and also on special awards.
Surnames of the Ukrainian senior pupils have been also among prize-winners of contest for three last years.
