FABLAB KPI is part of an international network laboratories, equipped with modern digital control machines, tools, 3D printers, etc. The FabLabs (from the English “Fabrication Laboratory”) is a place where every interested person is able to translate their own developments into the material. “FABLAB KPI” should become a laboratory for creative cooperation between students of different faculties and universities. This project is implemented within the framework of the project 561536-EPP-1-2015-1-UK-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP “Development of the network infrastructure for supporting youth entrepreneurship on the FABBLAB platform” (FABLAB) under the ERASMUS + Program of the European Union.
“We invited not only the representatives of the Institute of Applied Systems Analysis and the Mechanical Engineering Institute, which provided the laboratories with their areas, that is, those two units that created the “FabLAB KPI”. Today, there are staff members of the faculties, whose students, as we plan, will work together in this laboratory on their innovations. These are, besides representatives of IASA and MMI, also lecturers of faculties of informatics and computer science, biomedical engineering, electronics, etc.”, said at the beginning of the opening ceremony the project coordinator, associate professor of the IPSA Yuriy Tymoshenko.
The participants of the ceremony were greeted by the deputy director of the Institute of Applied Systems Analysis of the Igor Sikorsky KPI, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Natalia Pankratova. Inna Malyukova, Head of the Department “Integrated Technologies of Mechanical Engineering” of the MMI, on the basis of which the “FabLAB KPI” was created, Professor Vitaliy Pasichnyk (he, incidentally, is the coordinator and ideological inspiration of the project of creating SAE class “Formula Student KPI”), Deputy Director of the Educational Complex №141 “Educational Resources and Technological Training” Sergiy Tsyupa, Head of the “FabLab” Foundation “Isolation” Andriy Doroshenko, Director of Engineering School of the Oles Gonchar Dniprovsky National University Tetyana Bulana, representative of the European Union Project “National Erasmus + Office” - Ukraine and the National Team of Experts on Higher Education Reform" Petro Krainik and others said a lot about the history of the creation of a global network of production laboratories, their experience in Ukraine and Kiev, and the involvement of students in technical creativity and innovation entrepreneurship.
However, the participants of the opening not only listened about how interesting and important for the formation of engineers is work in Fablab, but also saw the possibilities of a new laboratory.
“Here we have a milling engraving machine with digital control software that allows you to handle wood, plastics, metals and alloys and to manufacture structural materials. In a pair with another, a slightly simpler machine with the less opportunities we already have, we can do many interesting things”, - told about the equipment and zoning of the laboratory Vitaliy Pasichnyk. - In order to work not “on the enthusiasm” we have other machines with a professional set of tools. In addition, we have 3D printers, one of which is the development of our teacher Dmytro Dzhulay. There is also an electronics zone in the laboratory. It is equipped for soldering, setting up of electronic devices and other. There is, of course, also a zone associated with the current development of artificial intelligence technologies”.
Participants of the opening also demonstrated some student projects that have already been implemented at the MMI and other faculties, as well as those students and graduate students who will work on in the new laboratory.
