Mathematics Week 2025 at our university started with the traditional Mathematical Battle - a competition that brings together teams of 1-2 year students to solve mathematical problems. The organizer is the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics (FMF).

The Math Battle is a competition with a story. It is not just a competition for the best problem solving, because during the battle you have to look for mistakes in the competitors' solutions, convince them of the correctness of your reasoning, and build a strategy and tactics of the battle, depending on the course of the competition. And all this in a limited time!

Mathematical battles are becoming increasingly popular among mathematics enthusiasts as they are a type of intellectual competition with a dynamic and unpredictable plot: according to the rules of the Mathematical Battle, even a team that has not solved a single problem but has managed to build the right strategy for opposition can become the winner.

This year, 3 teams competed in the Math Week. The students received a set of problems only two and a half hours before the competition, and after an intense brainstorming session, they started the Battle. In each round, one problem was considered, and the roles of the teams were distributed: one team became the Speaker, the other the Opponent, and the third the Observer. For each task, points were distributed among all teams, depending on the performance of the representatives of these teams.

Participants:

🥇 1st place

Team “Hyperbolic Cat” - a team of students from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics (FMF) and the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Science (FIOT)

🥈 2nd place

The team “The Theorem of Dampness” (Educational and Research Institute of Applied Systems Analysis, Institute of IPSA)

🥉 3rd place

The team “Auggie and Fibonacci” (Educational and Research Institute of Physics and Technology, Institute of FTI)

In addition to the mathematical battle, the brightest event of the Week of Mathematics at our university was the Interuniversity Mathematical Brainstorm, which was organized for the second time by the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (FMF).

📌 5 universities (Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, NaUKMA, Grinchenko University, Mykhailo Drahomanov National University of Kyiv)

📌 9 teams

During four rounds, the participants tested their wit and erudition, finding non-standard solutions in unusual interactive blitzes: puzzles, memes, AI battles, riddles from movies and music.

Math Week at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is a real intellectual duel among the best. We are looking forward to new meetings and creative ideas next year!
