KPI students have won the AI Labeling Sprint, a competition for young people interested in humanitarian demining and striving to make the country safer.
The organizers of this hackathon to train AI to detect explosive objects from the air are:
- Ministry of Economy of Ukraine;
- Humanitarian Demining Center;
- UADamage (Ukraine's reconstruction platform) with the support of UNDP and Luxembourg Aid & Development;
- National Mine Action Platform.
Our university was represented among 10 teams of Ukrainian universities:
- Educational and Research Institute of Aerospace Technologies (ER IAT);
- Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management ( Institute of IEE);
- Educational and Research Institute of Applied Systems Analysis ( Institute of IPSA);
- Faculty of Informatics and Computer Science (FIOT);
- Faculty of Sociology and Law (FSP).
KPI students overcame a 5-hour sprint: they processed 200 real images from drones, detected and classified explosive objects. And most importantly, they have upgraded the AI that will help sappers quickly and safely find threats in contaminated areas, which will speed up the demining of Ukraine.
🥇 Our students from the Educational and Research Institute of Aerospace Technologies (Institute of IAT) became the absolute winners. The accuracy of their results was highly appreciated by the expert jury - demining specialists, IT industry analysts, and environmentalists.
Congratulations to the winning team!
