Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute hosted the final day of a three-day training workshop for trainers - “Installation of heat pumps”.

This training is part of a large-scale initiative implemented by GIZ within the framework of the project “Promoting Energy Efficiency and Implementation of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive in Ukraine”. Its goal is to spread innovative educational programs in the energy sector to train a new generation of specialists.

The training brought together 30 representatives of vocational education institutions from 15 regions of Ukraine.

The event was organized and conducted by the members of the Energy Innovation Hub of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute as part of the project “Engaging Girls and Women in Ukraine's Energy Efficient Recovery through Energy Efficiency Training” with the support of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

“With the support of GIZ, we have created the Energy Innovation Hub, which unites three energy faculties of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Institute of IATE, Institute of IEE, and FEA) and their subdivisions, including the Energy Manager Training Center, where the training is held,” said Olena Shevchenko, senior lecturer at the Department of Thermal and Alternative Energy of the Institute of IATE.

For three days, the participants got acquainted with the theoretical and practical part of the heat pump installation course, which is one of the short-term programs aimed at obtaining a partial professional qualification. During the final day, special attention was paid to the energy efficiency of buildings, as well as practical work in the heat pump laboratory created with the support of Viessmann in the 22nd building of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The company's representative, Roman Vasylenko, conducted a workshop on the use of heat pump technologies. The training included a master class on the use of modern energy audit equipment provided by GIZ: the students analyzed the condition of the building and determined its energy losses.

"GIZ has been supporting energy efficiency in Ukraine for many years. This work has become even more important since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, as a large number of energy facilities need to be restored to meet modern energy efficiency standards," said Kateryna Miroshnychenko, expert at the International Development Foundation. According to her, Ukraine's number one challenge is the shortage of qualified personnel, which has been exacerbated by the war. That is why GIZ is working to create innovative programs that not only train specialists but also help teachers master the latest methods.

The day ended with a tour of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, which also has a career guidance vector - familiarization with the university's potential as a leading energy education center.

This project has become an example of the synergy of international support, science, and vocational education for the joint recovery and energy modernization of Ukraine. Together we are creating a culture of energy efficiency and sustainable development in education!
