The Faculty of Electric Power Engineering and Automation has established a Siemens educational and research laboratory. It was opened at the university, which holds a leading position in training highly qualified personnel for the energy sector of Ukraine, on December 22, the Power Engineer's Day, a professional holiday for energy industry workers.
Speaking to the participants of the ceremony, the rector of KPI, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Mykhailo Zgurovsky reminded that the cooperation between the university and Siemens began in July 2011, when a memorandum was signed. One of the main points of this joint document was the agreement to create a training and research laboratory at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Automation, for which the company undertook to supply modern equipment and licensed software. And at the end of December 2023, this laboratory started working. In addition, the initiators of the laboratory are the leaders of the Ukrainian company NGO Syneps-Invest, an official partner of Siemens.
This laboratory will be used for educational and scientific work of students, postgraduates, researchers and teachers of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. And not only FEA, but also all educational and research departments of the energy sector. Its equipment includes a transformer, switchgear, telemechanics controller, etc., which in general form a full-fledged electrical substation. "Today, this is the most modern equipment that exists in principle," said Dmytro Reznichenko, Head of the Power Engineering and Automation Department at Siemens Ukraine.
Thus, it will be possible to conduct full-fledged trainings, seminars, and courses for energy industry professionals with the possible involvement of representatives of Siemens Ukraine.
Moreover, it is expected that the university will develop separate training modules as part of educational programs or certificate programs, and students who will study them will work with the laboratory equipment and use its software. And, as Oleh Kramarev, Technical Director of NPO Synepsis-Invest LLC, noted, they will acquire a number of necessary skills from design to commissioning at the highest level of dispatch.
Thus, future power engineers who are studying this specialty at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute received a wonderful gift on Power Engineer's Day.
The next step in the development of cooperation should be the introduction of a dual education system for Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute students on the basis of the company.
The new laboratory has the most modern equipment: a transformer, switchgear, telemechanics controller, and all together it makes up a full-fledged electrical substation.
Students will practice real-life scenarios here and learn how to automate the power supply process.
