On March 13, an online meeting of representatives of the Catholic University of Parahyangan (UNPAR, Indonesia) and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was held with the participation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Ukraine Arif Muhammad Basalam.
UNPAR was represented by Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Katarina Badra Navangpalupi, Director for International Relations Reynard Primulando, Professor Sukawarsini Jelantik, and UNPAR Secretary Sylvia Yazid. Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was represented by Vice-Rector for International Relations Serhiy Sydorenko, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology and Law Olena Akimova, Deputy Dean of the same faculty Anna Ishchenko, and Assistant Rector Bohdan Duda.
The meeting was a continuation of the contacts between Kyiv Polytechnicians and Indonesians, which were launched last year after the visit of the Ambassador of Indonesia to Ukraine to KPI. Already in December 2023, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute representatives met with the Ambassador of Indonesia at the Embassy of Indonesia in Ukraine, where an agreement was reached to prepare a memorandum of cooperation.
After discussing some organizational issues, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The document envisages the following areas of cooperation: enriching educational potential through the exchange and use of international experience to improve professional skills; promoting higher education in accordance with international standards of education quality; organizing the Parties' participation in the development of educational projects, submitting proposals of mutual interest; promoting the exchange of scientific knowledge and achievements, providing assistance to each other in certain areas of science, technology and innovation, facilitating participation and organizing events in the
As Sergiy Sydorenko told KP, the Catholic University of Parahyangan is one of the leading universities in Indonesia, which has very strong schools in the humanities. These include law and sociology. That is why the Faculty of Sociology and Law was determined as the basic unit of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute for the development of cooperation with UNPAR. "We discussed what the first steps in our cooperation will be and in what areas. Perhaps, taking into account the hostilities and the great geographical distance between our countries, cooperation in both educational and scientific activities will take place online," explained the Vice-Rector. "At this meeting, as well as during previous talks with the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Ukraine, we also discussed the invitation of applicants from this country to study at KPI. It should be mentioned here that such educational programs as those available at KPI are not available not only in many universities in Ukraine, but also in the world." Sergiy Sydorenko emphasized that the personal presence of the Indonesian Ambassador at the meeting and the memorandum signing ceremony is evidence of the Indonesian government's appreciation of the opportunity to build cooperation with the most famous Ukrainian technical university.
