QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the world’s leading provider of services, analytics, and insight to the global higher education sector, has published an updated ranking of higher education institutions. In total, 1,452 university curricula from 85 countries in various specialties have been analyzed in 2021.
The National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” is one of the four Ukrainian free economic zones in the ranking of QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021. It is the specialty “Computer Science and Information Systems” (501-550) that has established Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute among the best universities in the world.
‘It is important to note the participation in the rankings of highly competitive specialties, for instance, Computer Science and Information Systems, Physics and Astronomy, and Engineering specialties in oil and gas industry,’ said Director of the QS Analytical Department Ben Sauter.
QS uses the following indicators to compile rankings by specialty: academic reputation, reputation among employers, number of citations per publication (a quantitative indicator of scientific performance, which measures the average number of citations per publication according to the international scientometric platform Scopus of Elsevier), Hirsch Organizational Index (a quantitative indicator that reflects the scientific performance and impact of research, according to Elsevier’s International scientometric platform Scopus of Elsevier).
This year, the number of Ukrainian higher education institutions in the rankings by specialties has increased to two to four comparing to 2020. Besides Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, the authoritative rating includes the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, and Lviv Polytechnic National University.
