The Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and Delfast Company have opened a RnD center in which students develop new models of electro-bikes and electro-cars.
“On the initiative of the Department of Educational Work of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the Career Development Center, an agreement was signed to create a RnD center. It is a kind of club where students from different faculties learn to collaborate, use theoretical knowledge and get extra points. In the future, we plan to give an opportunity for students to design their work in the center as part of their coursework,” explains Oksana Yurchyshyna, Associate Professor of the Department of Machine Tools and Machine Design of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering.
Today, almost 20 students from different faculties - the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering and Automatics, the Faculty of Electronics, the Institute of Mechanical Engineering - work in the projects of the company and their own prospective projects. In general, there are several new vehicle progects under development. This is a utilitarian cargo bike, premium bike and, tricycle, truck as well as a multifunctional vehicle that can be used by people with disabilities.
In class, students work with licensed software provided by the company. “This is the set of SOLIDWORKS software for automated design - both design and production files,” explains S. Honcharov, Delfast Chief Engineer and supervisor of the student’s developments. It is also extremely important that products created by student`s developments can be launched into production and sold. Students also will have an opportunity to intern at a company.
