At Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute a job fair was held. 45 companies of different areas were represented this year.
Job fairs have been running at the university for 12 years straight and are becoming increasingly popular both in the business environment and in the student community. «The number of employers is increasing every year and we are already lacking in space to place everyone. This event is very useful for students. In order to be motivated to study, they need to know where they will work and what skills set will enhance their competitiveness in the labor market,» said Nataliia Seminska, Vice-Rector of Education.
According to her, it is important for students today to learn how to communicate with employers to better understand the requirements of companies and their needs. «Students need to be able to communicate with HR managers. It is not enough to just walk up to the stand and grab a notebook and pencil,» explains Nataliia Seminska.
Despite the large number of students who attended the event, the organizers of the fair are making some innovations this year to improve its effectiveness. In particular, they will collect and analyze information on the results of communication between students and job fair participants, and will deepen communications with potential employers.
«We want to get feedback from companies about how many students are interested in finding a job, how many have been selected for further cooperation, etc.,» explains Nataliia Pozharska, Head of the Employment Assistance and Professional Development Unit at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Career Development Center.
Prospective employers are also advised to pay attention not only to senior courses, but also to freshmen and sophomores. This will allow companies to «educate» a ready-made employee, who can be recruited immediately, while teaching a student. Students will also be able to complete the internships necessary to successfully finish their studies and begin their career development as soon as possible.
