It was organized by the Federation of Kendo of Ukraine, the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, and the Ukrainian-Japanese Center of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
20 kendoists from all over Ukraine competed for the Japanese Ambassador Cup. The competition were conducted in three categories: individual among entry-level women, individual competitions among entry-level men, and individual competitions among higher-level men (First Division). Among women, won the participant from Odesa, among men in both categories won representatives from the capital.
Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Takashi Kurai addressed the participants of the tournament. He congratulated the winners and noted that the art of kendo is close to him, because he was engaged in it when he was a student.
According to the Kendo Federation, this is the eleventh tournament to be held in Ukraine. “Sword Path” is exactly how this martial art is translated from Japanese – attracts both men and women. The stem of kendo is the formation of a person’s character through heavy training where the struggle goes inside, not outside.
Anyone who wants can adept at it. Training sessions are held a few times a week on the ground floor of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Sports Complex.
