Annualy in Ukraine there is an international linguistic and literary competition for pupils and students of the name of Taras Shevchenko, aimed at honoring Kobzar's memory and art. This year is already the seventh. The student of the first course of the faculty of management and marketing Victoria Potapova took the first place among the students of the higher education institutions of III-IV levels of accreditation (non-humanitarian profile).
For students the competition consisted of three stages: university, city and all-Ukrainian. At each stage participants were offered an actual theme for writing work based on the works of Taras Shevchenko.
"I admire Kobzar's art," said Viktoriya, "so I decided to participate in the competition. The first stage was organized by the Department of Ukrainian Language, Literature and Culture of our University, in particular by Mikhail Petrovich Kushlava, and was held at the KPI named after Igor Sikorsky, other - in the Boris Grinchenko University of Kyiv ". At the first stage, students wrote a work-reflection on "Does Ukraine Need a Canonical Image of Taras Shevchenko?". At the city stage, the theme of the work was "Humanistic ideals in the works of Taras Shevchenko". In the works it was necessary to use complex syntactic constructions mentioned above, to quote the works, and to give examples from the life of Kobzar.
"I am well acquainted with the work of the poet since the 9th grade," the student continues, "the themes of the competition inspired me, but for successful fulfillment of the tasks it is necessary to know well the artist's biography and art, to know how to express his thoughts in Ukrainian thoughrouly. Thanks to the school teacher Svitlana Mikhailovna Nemesh, who opened the world of Taras Shevchenko for me and the teacher of the Department of Ukrainian Language, Literature and Culture Liliya Oleksandrivna Ozhogan for her advices, training, support and motivation."
The awards ceremony took place on May 20th at the Chernecha Hill in Kaniv. The festivities were held with the participation of the Deputy of the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Pavlo Hobzeya, the Deputy of the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yuriy Rybachuk, Executive Director of the Institute for the Modernization of the Content of Education Volodymyr Tkachenko, Vice-Rector for Scientific Work of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture of Ostap Kovalchuk and others. They greeted the best connoisseurs of the literature and the history of Ukraine and state-building. Professor-physicist at Kingston University (London), Alan Flowers, spoke about Vera Rich, an English writer, translator of Kobzar's works.
The jury member, Dmitry Drozdovsky, noted that the highest recognition was given to those works where young Shevchenko scholars demonstrated their own sense of the words of Shevchenko, passed through his heart and life. By the way, this year the students had the opportunity to work on the tasks in which they comprehended and compared the works of two giants of the spirit - Shevchenko and Shakespeare, with such a distinct and lucid language and drama of thought.
The awardees had the opportunity to chat with the participants of the festivities, to visit the museum of Kobzar; The Kaniv College of Culture and Arts students arranged for them a concert. In the museum of V.Potapova the portrait of Taras Shevchenko, made from photographs of the Maidan and the Revolution of Virtue was beloved the most. At the end of the event, the winners and guests laid flowers on the grave of the Great Kobzar.
"Before university, I studied at the school No. 9 in Chernihiv," Viktoria tells. "Since my childhood I loved to read and adored literature. I read Nestyko, science fiction, encyclopedias, and later classical and scholarly literature. At 11th grade, my family took the first place in the city's "Reading Family" competition. Last year, I compiled an IEE of language and literature with a score of 196. " Now Victoria is studying "International Economics", she studies economics and foreign languages, takes part in professional competitions and conferences, is preparing to become an economist on international issues.
