As soon as I joined "Globus", I started to count my life not in years, but in training seasons. So the story of the events and achievements of the club goes back to the beginning of the season 2014/2015. In September, there was a traditional evening of newcomers' enrollment. New three teams appeared: "Moment of Truth", "Centaur's Move" and "Sagarmatha". In May, they participate in a training hiking trip to the Carpathians which is an obligatory step before hiking in big mountains. Overall, the club trains 14 teams of different training levels in this season.
In late September, there was a club trip to Zhornivky villages, nearby Kyiv. Many novices had their first night in tents. We had a lot of fun with active games and competitions.
During the year, the teams have training 2-3 times a week. Classes consist of physical (running and exercises), technical (rope technique) and theoretical (experienced tourists' lectures) training. Novices have studied bends, have had training in crossings, descents and rope climbing. Senior teams perfect their technical skills there is always room for improvement.
On October 19, our club sportsmen held a competition "Autumn Leaf." "Sagarmatha" took the second place in the junior group and "Uranus" (the coach is postgraduate student R.Sakov, TEF) took the third place. The performance of our girls' teams "5D" was an interesting experiment. If only we played out the Audience Choice Award, they would certainly have won it.
Every month there are evening meetings with travelers in the room. 402 of KPI sports complex. Admission is free. Not only Polytechnic students are welcome but also tourists from other clubs and veterans. A story about summer camp "Globus", told by candidate for master of sports, one of the camp instructors and club coaches Bohdan Hrabets, was especially interesting and action-packed.
In early November there was a traditional club hiking in a rock massif of Denyshi village, in Zhytomyr Region. We were overcoming climbing routes, mastering sport orienteering with a compass and map and learning to organize stopping places on t rocks. We were also relaxing by the fire in the evenings.
On November 28-30, the tourist club "Globus" organized and held the brightest and the most original contest of the season - "Kyiv November." It is a popular joke that it should be renamed "Kyiv snowfall" because it is snowing for several years during the competition. The competitors were overcoming the distances within 12 and 36 hours in teams of 3-4 people. The first distance consisted of orienteering, finding checkpoints and simple technical tasks. The second distance additionally included a number of difficult technical stages with the elements of rescue operations. "Ja" (the captain - Andrii Buzuluk, FEL student) won the first place in the 36-hour race and "Wheels" won the second place. Both teams were from our club.
On January 4-10, there was a club winter trip to the Carpathian camp "Globus". He students were trained to walk on the snow and to fight the cold in order to prepare for high-mountain hikings.
On March 8-9, the club organized a trip to Sabariv rock massif where the club members improved their rock-climbing technique.
On March 15 our club teams participated in the competition "The opening of the season." "Prominences" took the first place in the junior group and "Uranus"won the second place.
On March 26, there was an award ceremony for the winners of the competition, organized by the Ukrainian Adventure and Eco-Tourism Association. KPI tourist club "Globus" was the only nominee that won in two categories at once: "The best tourist club of the year" and "The best training school of active tourism." Organizers invited us to speak at the roundtable, where we were by presented Bohdan Hrabets (TEF).
Another March achievement was prize-winning places in the Championship of Ukraine on 5-6 complexity hikings. Oleksii Kelin’s hiking in the Central and Northern Pamir took the second place and Anastasia Volkova’s hiking in the Northwest Pamir took the third one.
On March 28-29, our sportsmen took part in MKS Cup competitions on a rock massif of Denyshi village. Yevhenii Stolbovyi and Oleksandr Kerov (FPM) won the second place on the distance of combinations of stunts, and Oleksandr also took the third place in the individual race.
On April 4-5, we participated in the Championship of Kyiv on hiking. "Prominences-juniors" won Kyiv Cup and "Moment of Truth" took the second place in the 3rd class cross-hiking. "Prominences-seniors" won the second place on the distance of the 4th class cross-hiking. It is interesting that having only first year of training, "Moment of Truth" surpassed many senior teams according to the result.
On April 19, we held the half-marathon "Kosmos" in Pushcha-Voditsa for the first time. For those who are not into running, a 10-km distance was organized.
We are going to participate in May hikings and in the Ukrainian Championship. In summer, we are to hike in the Tien Shan, Kazbek Region, Romanian Carpathians and in the other interesting areas.
