Department of English for Engineering 1 was founded in 2006.
Department of English language of technical direction No. 1 was organizоed in 2006.
Currently, the department employs 33 qualified scientific and pedagogical workers, including 1 professor, doctor of philological sciences, 9 candidates of sciences (including 8 associate professors), 7 senior lecturers, 17 lecturers. Acting head of the department is doctor of philological sciences, professor Artur Grantovych Gudmanyan. The teachers of the department carry out scientific and pedagogical activities at 5 faculties of KPI named after Igor Sikorsky, successfully teaching English to more than 5,000 full-time and part-time students. The main directions of the department's work are:
- highly qualified teaching of technical English language students;
- provision of advisory assistance to students and preparation for participation in student Olympiads and conferences;
- development of educational programs and educational and methodological materials.

The staff of the department is actively engaged in the development of topical methodological issues in the teaching of technical English and improves its qualifications by undergoing internships in other leading universities of Ukraine, in the British Council and American organizations for language education.
The department actively cooperates with graduation departments of NTUU "KPI" and with related departments of other educational institutions. Scientific conferences are held every spring, where students of 3-4 years present their reports on the topics of their specialty in English.
In the conditions of the influence of European integration on education, the teachers of the department introduce and implement educational programs according to the Bologna process.
The teachers of the department carry out the organization of English language learning, forming a high level of English communicative competence in students.
Multimedia technologies and interactive strategies introduced by teachers and communicative techniques contribute to the achievement of the level of language proficiency B2, which is the standard for a bachelor's degree, and C1 for masters.
The department is actively moving forward, constantly improving the quality of language teaching and raising the professional level of classes. This is facilitated by methodical working groups and scientific sections created at the department, the participants of which constantly hold conferences on the exchange of experience, help young teachers in the organization of the educational process, conduct seminars on the latest methods and technologies of teaching English. Teachers participate in conferences and seminars, monitor and implement new teaching methods, cooperate with other universities on urgent problems of language training.
