Main tasks of the department

  • Comprehensive scientific research of museum objects and their introduction into the objective reproduction of the processes of the history of aviation and cosmonautics in Ukraine.
  • Creation of stationary and mobile, permanent and temporary expositions and exhibitions in the Museum and beyond.
  • Popularization of knowledge among students and the general public through the Museum's expositions, career guidance for young people.
  • Promoting the improvement of the educational process in Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, deepening the general education and professional training of students, pupils, developing their interests in research, forming an understanding of the inextricable interconnection of the past, present and future of the country.
  • Implementation of new innovative forms of work with student youth in cooperation with Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute's academic and research staff to popularize science and technology.
  • Cultural and educational activities to popularize knowledge in the field of history of science and technology among students and the general public, career guidance for young people through the Museum's expositions.

Museum collection

The halls of the museum's branch recreate the history of aviation in Kyiv and Ukraine. A separate exposition is dedicated to the creators of aviation equipment from the 18th century to the present day. Products of O. Ivchenko's Progress, Aviant, Aviakon, Motor-Sich, Antonov ASTC, etc., personal belongings of astronauts, and historical documents are presented.

🔘The exposition of the aviation section is represented by information on stands and exhibits covering the process of human exploration of airspace, from balloons to modern airliners. Particular attention is paid to the role of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in the history of aviation and its cooperation with leading aviation companies in Ukraine and the world.

🔘The astronautics section exhibits unique exhibits, many of which have been in space: a burnt-out spacecraft descent vehicle, rocket engine elements developed by the Pivdenne Design Bureau and manufactured at the Pivdenmash plant (Ukraine). Instruments of telemetry and flight control systems for rockets, spacecraft, etc.

The museum's specialists organize scientific readings and roundtables dedicated to outstanding events and personalities in the history of aviation and astronautics.

The entire staff of the DPM (including K.Hryhorenko, I.Kolyada, V.Tatarchuk, V.Rusakova, O.Boltenko, M.Dormidontov, T.Ozozhenko, V.Boyko, A.Lozovyi), as well as employees of industrial enterprises from Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Konotop, and Kyiv, participated in the preparation of the exhibition.
